Is U of Maryland the worst big conference track team ever?

I’m some examples you would be right for sure, just not this particular one.

Im happy they still have a track team.
They were going to get rid of track programs a few years ago.

Although Maryland track program hasn’t done well in years. That has not always been the case. From 1956 to 1979 they won every ACC championship outdoors. They won 26 total outdoor championships . Indoor track they won every ACC indoor meet 1956-1980. Won 11 total crosscountry championships

My HS teammate ran 2:11 and she was offered nothing.

The facts say that the great 400m runner Andrew Valmon doesn't have the best high school team in the state in his own event.

Bullis is a great team, but they shouldn't be in the BIG10, and neither should Maryland.

This was crazy to me. On the mens side

UMD- 48.06, Chase McGeehan
Bullis- 46.11 Quincy Wilson

Part of it is Bullis is an incredible program and deserves props.

On the distance side UMDs top mens 5k is 15:20. Yikes.

15:20 is slow, but UMD's distance has historically been their Achilles heel.

Fun trivia fact... Even being out of the ACC now for almost ten years. Did you know that Maryland has won more ACC championships in track and field than ANY other ACC team has done in ANY sport!! So it has shown greatness when given the right love.

Fact 2: Maryland cut 8 sports because it was spending 58 million a year on a 56 million budget. Worst decision ever!! Any let's run fool could cut 2 million from their spending without touching a damn sport.

Bullis is the real deal!! Navy women on the rise too. Hopkins ain't too shabby (346/347/347 top 3 1500 guys there oh and I think their women are ok)

There's a difference between being an Achilles heel and never threatening to score. 15:20 is a high school level time, not a power 5 time

The most recent conference championship was in 1981 for men's outdoor, 1980 for men's indoor, and 1976 for cross country. The women's program has never won anything.

Nah they are too busy drinking at the bar to care. They still get fancy under armour gear.

Maryland’s distance program had some strong years in the 80s & 90s. Sadly, they are no longer competitive in more areas than one.

It doesn't help that Under Armour is a terrible track gear provider and Maryland is joined at the hip with Under Armour.

I am gonna guess bad team culture

I live within 10 minutes of College Park. The winters are nothing here. We had one morning with a dusting of snow this past winter. That's it. I will grant you it can get Windy and it was a particularly warm winter. But it is pretty mild in the winter here and it warms up pretty quickly in the spring. Whatever is keeping this team from having success, it isn't the climate.
