Yes. At 2022 indoor championships the NCst women's DMR was DQ'd impeding. If I recall they did not exit the track correctly, something pretty similar.
Sometimes. Read the thread about schools like Wisconsin amd IA State entering guys to sacrifice their race to lead and then dropout. Then there are prelims where top 2 or 3 move on so running for 3rd is all some people do. Then there is this situation where team points are what matters. If the race has been won and you pass your teammate, there are no additional points. It is like stealing the basketball from your teammate to score the basket because your logic is that making baskets is the point.
It would have been more “bush league” for Amaris to wait for a teammate who completely hit the wall. They were not guaranteed to go 1 -2 when Amaris passed Kelsey. Amaris was ahead of kelsey for most of the race. Amaris ran multiple events and kelsey ran fresh.

You make the assumption w 20/20 hindsight (from the stands or the telecast) that Amaris (and Kelsey) knew exactly where Chisholm and Maatoug were as they all closed the final 400. It looked like Kelsey was running away with it until the last 150 or so; then the wheels started coming off. If you’re in Amaris’ position do you wait and see and risk letting others back in the race for the win, or do you press? I know what my answer would be as well as what I would expect of my runners. Amaris did exactly what I would expect her to do — run for the win.

It was a ME move and she’s only been there a few weeks. I think it’s bush league. Just my opinion.
Nonsense! It’s each teammate’s responsibility to lay down the best time they can. It may not make a difference always in team points but how would they know if the 3rd place runner couldn’t overtake them if they didn’t do their best. Additionally, this is post season and they need to strive to make regionals and nationals. There are no guarantees. At the end of the day this is an individual sport. They don’t average team times for post season championships. I’m sure Chmiel knows this and would have done the same. You have to remember that there are always teammates sitting on the sidelines that would love a chance to race in the post season. Rauber and others where cheering on the sidelines and their relative seniority didn’t give them seniority points for the championship season and more talented freshmen got a spot that could have gone to them. They all understand the rules and try to avoid petty jealousies and other potential sources of friction in the team dynamics. It’s tough on an all star team.

Wouldn’t those nc state athletes you mention “cheering on the sideline” be racing if they were fast enough?
Kelsey leads the last few laps, does all the work getting past runners while Amaris sits behind her drafting. Then on the home stretch with the finish line in sight and Chmiel clearly spent from all that work, Amaris suddenly kicks it into high gear and passes Chmiel for the win.
Chmiel seemed really surprised to see her teammate go by her, then after the race it looks like Amaris is kinda freaking out, like she realized what she did, goes over to Chmiel and apologizes.
perhaps much ado about nothing, but interesting.

You're leading most of a championship race and lose in the last few meters. How would you feel? I know you want LRC to be TMZ, but let people have emotions.
The race was slow, about 30 seconds slower than their PBs and qual times, they know this from splits.
Irrelevant. When they look back on their careers, winning an ACC title when it was there for the asking will mean a lot.

That you are criticizing him based on facts you only know b/c he set up straight is pure genius.
