And how in the world did Rockledge High School get placed in a Regional in Miami? Rockledge is just east of Orlando; it is at least a three-hour drive.
That's what I was wondering. I saw the meet was in Miami and the first school I saw was Northwestern. So immediately I'm thinking the other one must have been one of Northwestern's chief rivals, somebody like Carol City.
When it said Rockledge I was scrambling to remember where that was. Thanks for verifying it is Orlando area. I have no idea how they ended up in that regional.
Both entire teams got DQ’d. Think that’s unfair for the people who already left the meet but discuss below…
”One student-athlete was concussed in the several altercations that occurred in spurts with police, officials, and coaches on-site unable to fully stop more fighting from popping up. Others needed medical attention for scrapes, cuts, and injuries. Several punches were thrown and stomping and kicking of individuals down on the ground as witnessed by flrunners.com on-site at the track meet.” -fl.milesplit.com
That is embarrassing. At the very least the 4x400 teams needed to be banned from states. I can absolutely see not banning those who were not involved but the 4x400 runners and all other athletes that could be identified on video needed to be banned. This just sets the precedent that brawls will go unpunished in the future so why not do it again. Next time it happens and someone tries to punish the teams, they can simply point to this incident and its lack of accountability and also suffer no consequences. I wouldn't be surprised if the state organization was afraid of the accusations that always seem to result when people do bad things and are held accountable. Probably felt it was best just to let it rest.

The fhsaa knee jerked when they suspended everyone and with people threatening lawsuits they knee jerked again in the other direction.
