Kipchoge had an excellent career on the track. Won multiple global medals. Absolutely world class. Was he the GOAT on the track? Of course not. But I didn't realize you had to be the GOAT on the track in order to be the GOAT in the marathon...

Of course I never said you had to be the GOAT on the track to be the best marathoner. What I said was he could no longer break 27 and then he became a marathoner who was almost unbeatable for a decade. It is all a little strange to the intelligent.

Speaking of records, I think you may be on pace to set a record for downvotes in a single thread. It’s not personal, but your predictions of EK’s athletic demise followed closely by your accusations of EK doping are not going over well. Just give it a rest and move on to something else.

Thanks for your opinion. I don’t give a rat’s ass about downvotes or your opinion. The mob are often on the wrong side of matters.
This will not be a popular post, but all these old guys running the fastest marathons only proves the marathon isn't a real athletic event.
It's more like golf, where majors are often enough won by guys in their 40s. Fitness may be important, but experience counts even more. It takes a big fitness decline to outweigh that.
Think of your marathon pace. Slight huffing and puffing. You need high max vo2 for that? No, you need extremely efficient form like Eliud or Kenenisa. That's honed by experience.
Let's take a little look at this. The top 10 all time list and the age they ran their PB:
Kipchoge 38
Bekele 37
Kiptum 23
Legese 25
Geremew 27
Kimetto 30
Ekiru 29
Chebet 32
Geay 26
Cherono 32
So that's five guys in their 20s and only two over the age of 32. And those two are freakishly talented, pretty much undisputed GOATs. The marathon does favour experience, which is why I think more top athletes should go to he roads in their early-to-mid 20s with a view to being competitive later on. But it's not an old man's event

I agree it is not an old man’s event. For the record, Eliud was still 37 when he set his current world record.
People forget that Kipchoge was actually an outstanding cross country runner between 2002 to 2010.Offcourse the dominance of Bekele at the time probably overshadowed his cross country achievements, but he was actually amongst the best at the time. The Boston route favours someone with great cross country credentials. Kipchoge for sure has those credentials. Personally I think he is the favourite by far unless he hasn't prepared well. You can never really know how well prepared an elite athlete is until the race day.If he has 85%fitness of his best he will win as long as the weather permits.
As long as the weather is not like 2018 storms, I don’t think Kipchoge will deviate from his likely strategy: he will go through the half at 1:01:30 to be on record pace for 2:03 and expecting a negative split. Anyone who can’t live with that will not have a chance to win.
And if Kipchoge can run 4:37 pace on the flat looking like he’s floating, I’m pretty certain the downhill towards Boston is going to be fast.
I look forward to the day folks on this forum can contribute without falsely accusing elite runners who haven't been found doping to be dopers. Personally I think there is a case for defamation and someone should actually smoke out some of these keyboard warriors.

You are the same simpleton who was defending or would have been defending Lance Armstrong. So many of you have your head buried in the sand. So many Kenyans are doping but the greatest of them all is above it all? Hahahahahahahahahhahahaha! Look at what he is doing. Eliud ran 12:52 20 years ago. OK he is clean. Does this make you happy?

So according to Maxcrux, any runner who has not been found to be doping is above suspicion. OK so can we expect the clearly clean Eliud to be the best marathoner in the world into his 40s? The dopers can never run as fast as this clean man? It seems as if doping is actually hurting these contenders to the throne.
Eliud is now 38. He is no longer the best in the world. This is the reality. Maybe he can do 2:04 at Boston.
In the last 13 months, Kipchoge has run the 1st and 6th fastest eligible marathon times in history (2:01:09, 2:02:40). The 2:01 was less than 200 days ago.
WA has him ranked as the #1 in the Marathon World Rankings.
He is the 2x defending Olympic Champion.
He has won 14 of the 15 marathons he's entered since 2014.
Is he past his prime? Probably. Might he not set the record in Boston? Possibly. But there is no doubt, Eliud Kipchoge is the best marathoner in the world.

Yes he has been for sure. No question. I certainly wasn’t arguing that point. But we also know that LeBron James was the greatest basketball player of the 2010s decade. He no longer is the greatest basketball player.
