Friendly, reminder, you are talking about a real person who very well may read this. I've written up that summarizes the key points that he said on the podcast.
What the New Zealand article fails to mention is that Zane appears to be suicidal. He talked about wanting to end his life 3 or 4 times on the podcast.
If anyone is suicidal, please dial or text 988 in the US. We have the international suicide numbers in the article.
He states in the podcast he returned to NZ and chewed through his life savings ( get a part time job champ) unsure of his relationship with his parents so can’t comment on that. However he and his brother were very arrogant, negative and dismissive of the Athletics NZ bureaucracy and system throughout their careers and this probably cost them carding and financial aid. Hindsight is a great tool but maybe if they hadn’t been such tools things could have been different.
You use the word "carding" which means you must be Canadian because no one else uses that word in any other country. I think Zane can go back safely to New Zealand because to be honest with you I don't think he's really well known in New Zealand because athletics is hardly a high-profile sport in that country and he would really basically be unknown everywhere he goes except for a very small minority of people who follow track and field. Life is short so he should try to find a new endeavour which will fulfil him for the rest of his life. He made an egregious mistake by crossing the line but I feel sorry for him. Absolutely no need to end his life. There are still people who love and support him and will stand by his side. If he really only did this once then he can redeem himself like giving more information so that we have more knowledge about this issue in the future.
Well I’m not Canadian so good work Colombo. And at no stage did I say he should end his life so suggest you retract that. And if he is smart he will hook up with Mike King (feel free to Google him Colombo) and turn what is an absolute all time low in his life into something positive and try and help others which would also help to change the perception within the athletics community that he is a selfish brat.
The man has ruined his career and the image of his brother too whether Jake really doped or not. I have lost all credibility in the twins. This process of moving with the vial reveals some contemplation and therefore I can’t believe for a second he only did this once. Plus he did not implicate his wife at the time. Just reads as a call for attention.
I hope he got paid millions for this podcast because I can’t see anyone paying him a dime in the future. Feel bad for his family. Maybe he should have thought about that first. If the end result is you need a career outside of running anyway he could have done it cleanly and with respect. I can’t imagine anyone who’d want to associate with Zane in the future. It’s very sad.
Losing credibility for his brother also who he hasn’t trained with in years and rarely sees? Guilty by association of being born Zane’s twin brother doesn’t make him guilty also. If one kid cheats in a classroom does that mean all other kids in the class cheated also? No.
What if the testing got better and it is possible to detect EPO for say 10 days?!
I mean that’d be great and we’d see many more busts…I kinda doubt it.
They have apparently made a breakthrough recently and will be able to increase the time they can detect EPO use. I don't know if it has been introduced yet. His positive test was in Britain wasn't it? Britain would be likely the first to introduce the latest testing tech. The Brits have also developed a system that detects changes to the dna caused by EPO which will mean EPO use can be detected potentially from years prior to the test.
I need one of these busted athletes to just start singing like a canary. How did you get the drugs, who else is taking them, anything. When other sports (Baseball/Cycling) had steroid scandals, guys who got caught started turning on each other left and right, but for some reason that never seems to happen in running.

Nobody is paying for this info. If you offered someone 5 million for information that leads to a drug ban of another athlete, you might get this info.
Sponsors should be required to pay a living wage for the term of the contract with athletes without regard to performance. If sponsors want the benefit of having their gear on a national champion, Olympic athlete, etc., they need to bear the burden of staying with athletes through thick and thin, Sponsors cannot just skim the cream off the top but need to be required to support all athletes to make sure that they do not fall under the pressure to dope due to threats of getting cut off.
This proposal would effectively end all sponsorship.
Its good he came clean. I think only 1 year should be added to his ban, making it a 9 year ban since he was finally honest.
For a lying athlete like Shelby, I feel 12 years, 3 olympiads, should be added to her drug ban.
An eight-year ban is already a life sentence for an athlete and at his age this is the end of his career. How do you justify the harshness of his sentence? I'm not saying he should get off scot free - that would be ludicrous - but 8-years?his life as a sportsman is over unless he changes sports. Basketball is an option for him because I know that was one of his main Sports in high school in NZ. You need to find a purpose in life and move on from there.
He's burnt his bridges in Kenya and that was his home for the past 10 years or more. Where does he go? He's invested his whole life into running and now that's been taken away from him. Tragic case.
That was a wild listen. Only crazy competitive people would drop everything and move to Kenya. To last 16 years makes you on another level of competition. People with that kind of mindset would never give an interview like this. I was hating in my previous posts but I'm floored by his bravery to share this much. It's rare to hear intimately what the subject of our discussions is going through. Never bashing another athlete again. Zane is still a legend and I hope he can just leave the competitive sport and start a new life. I did it after a huge mess-up and while I still have resentment and I still think about what could have been I'm glad I kept going.

Bet he could drive a truck or work in a restaurant or learn to sell real estate. He's not going to starve or have to live on the streets unless he chooses to see no other option. I don't see any value in keeping someone like him in the sport, or in any other sport.
Where are you getting this Basketball rubbish from. With or without drugs he is an aerobic slow twitch beast exactly the opposite of what a basketball player needs. I once wore a Real Madrid shirt does that mean at the age of 43 I can quit my job and go and play professional football? Give your head a wobble
This is what Shelby should be doing instead of peddling the ridiculous burrito story. Even Floyd came good in the end. I have way more sympathy for the dopers that admit it, especially if the testify against the teams and sport.
Floyd "came good in the end" cuz he had already lost everything and then was further rejected by Lance for his comeback and he basically had nothing to lose and wanted vengeance/retribution. He was sitting there with nothing and his one big victory taken away and Lance was continuing to shine with his seven Tour de France victories. Floyd just couldn't take it anymore.
Don't pretend for one second it had anything to do with "wanting to do the right thing."

No need for insults. I meant coaching, not playing. Get his coaching quals in hoops and get involved in NZ basketball.

Do you actually know what an insult is? Nowhere in that post did I insult you.
