Or!!! Either hire a rabbit yourself or meet directors need to hire rabbits if races are set up for fast times. Not everyone has the same idea as you. Maybe he just wanted to race today
I understand kleckers frustration but they had a pacer for like 17 mins anyways. Also I don't think woody had a chance to lose today
Exactly. Woody is just one of the racers. He's not there to help anyone. Can't stand attitudes like Klecker's. He could have run faster if he wanted to.
But this isn’t a race. No one should care who wins this. It’s a meaningless meet. They’re there to run a fast time.
Hate when people get attitudes like kleckler here. If you want to run faster then run faster. Stop blaming crap on other people. It’s not woodys fault you couldn’t execute your plan and if it was then maybe next time come up with a plan that doesn’t rely on another runner.
If Klecker and OAC really want to do what’s #goodforthesport they should really lean into this beef with Woody. No more PC statements on Twitter. This has all the makings of a great contentious rivalry.
This is going to turn into Bowerman and On doing there own group time trials in the future and I wouldn't blame them. If it's all about time anyways then why set other people up to run fast when you have the people to do it yourselves?
Olli paced Klecker, Andrews paced Monson, Woody (then Bowerman) paced Fisher last year. Cranny only had a pacer for 3k. They can do this at home.

As a reminder, WA made the dramatic changes in the standard with the intention of only filling ~half of the field via time, filling the other half via the rankings, which are driven by racing in elite meets. The idea is to incentivize racing in big meets against good competition.
I like the parties involved last night, but frankly I'm glad this didn't pan out for the men. I'd rather see Klecker and Kincaid in Europe, racing.

Again, run to get the time you want. Nothing was stopping Klecker except Klecker.
I am astonished at how many people are taking Klecker’s whiny side on this thread. It’s a damn race, not two buddies holding hands to a time. You can’t expect some guy in a different training group to take the lead and help you. Why would you help your competitor?
Let's cut to brass tacks. When that gun fires, no one owes you a goddamned thing! Also, sh*t happens like clipping, shoving, falls, etc. It's racing. It is also why we get our butts handed to us in championship competition. Our boys, with a few exceptions, lack the cojones to mix it up. Nope, we just want our perfectly paced time trials with someone getting paid to do the heavy lifting and everything has to be just perfect.
Joe - you are a compensated professional athlete and this ain't your first rodeo. If you are in sub-27 shape, then freaking run a sub-27! Don't blame it on Woody for not helping. He is under no obligation to be your Cal Naughton, Jr. and set up "Shake and Bake" for you.
American male elites - if you have the chops to go sub-3:30 / sub-13:00 / sub-27:00, then run that pace and take the chance that you will get used and outkicked. There wasn't huge money or a team berth on the line so why employ this cagey gamesmanship bullsh*t and then complain that sh*t didn't go your way and you missed your goal? In some ways, I feel like I am watching a regression back to the 1990s.

The whole point of the new standards is to encourage more actual racing. Winning this race have Woody a decent boost in the world rankings. Neither of these two need the standard to make the Olympics, assuming they actually race well over the next year.
Klecker fell off pace 10 laps before the finish and ran a last lap that was 8 seconds faster than goal-pace. He could have gotten his Oly qualifier and he didn't need Woody to do it.
This reminds me of the time I was running a particular turkey trot. I was in 6th place and the guy who was in 5th kept looking back at me, which was clearly cheating to stay just ahead of me but not expend too much effort. When he looked back I started beckoning to him to slow down. He never would. He would slow down on his own at times and I would kick and then he would outkick me to stay in front. I was gassed. I kept beckoning to him. At one point I yelled out, "slow down I just want to talk!" And he flat out ignored me. I mostly hung with him until the finish line. After the race, with tears swelling in my eyes, I went up to him and said "bro what is your problem? I said slow down! I just wanted to run with you!" and he said something like "it's a race!"
