Universal Basic Income needs to be put in place NOW before living wage jobs disappear.

I dont know where i draw the line. My thought is you cant generate "something" from 0. A UBI is guaranteeing someone something, from 0 production. I think one needs to provide some tangible value to society to receive UBI.

Still don't support it, but there would need to be contingencies.

We saw what happens when you helicopter dump money on people/corporations over covid. Massive inflation which benefits no one. (Except if you received PPP or stimulus checks)

I don't know about this evil "left". I have no political affiliation and I am unaware if I know anyone belonging to the "left". Though I admit that I could just be oblivious to this global evil leftist agenda.

And in a theoretical future with no 40 hour a week desk job. Does anyone with a middling job really define their purpose by that? People will still define their existence and time with hobbies and recreation. See instagram likes becoming more like currency. Showing off on Strava for the kudos will be the life defining goals of many a LetsRun poster

So the Utopians will argue that without having to dedicate so much time to performing menial task to “make ends meet” people will be free to be more creative and society will advance even greater with all sorts of new innovations.

I guess like how society as always advanced through new technologies over time as civilizations no longer needed to devote their entire existence to merely surviving another day. But again that’s the purely theoretical utopian view.

UBI is a bad idea. It will breed laziness. Also if the government is paying it, then that money is coming from tax payers that are working which is not fair.

The validity of UBI as a good solution comes down to which scenario we would be in:

1) If there are enough living wage jobs for common people, then yes, UBI is very bad idea.

2) If there are no living wage jobs for the average person, then the result will be unrest, destabilization, chaos, and the fall of civilization. In which case, UBI would be a reasonable solution.

That's just what a healthy economy needs: no one has any incentive to excel or innovative because redistribution of wealth makes everyone "equal".

As far as I'm concerned, the ideal form of UBI would provide just enough to have bare basic shelter and food.

People will still have the incentive to excel if they want more than the bare basics. People will still have the desire to "be better" than the other guy.

Humans are wired to be competitive and achieve some sense of accomplishment for sure. The poster you quoted is missing the point and is just afraid of people the idea of “free handouts”. The reasonable argument for UBI is if society reaches the point where where you literally have no need for human capital in (most of) the workforce.

I've seen this in action and it produces nothing. I worked for an American Indian Tribe that was able to produce a significant amount of annual 'distributions' to its membership through growing substantial non-casino investments both on and off the reservation. The youth growing up in this environment are not motivated to do anything. Not in school, not in the Tribe, certainly not looking to be leaders. They expect the money to keep rolling in and growing. The adult population reaction is mixed depending on their age as this has been going on for only 20 years or so. There is something key to human existence when you have to get up every morning and put effort into your life to make things better for you and your family. With UBI, there is no incentive to better yourself.

So, in your opinion, if there comes a time when there are no longer any living wage jobs, the human species will likely either devolve or become extinct?

Maybe to avoid that fate, humans can be given pretend jobs like Maggie's pretend stirring wheel.

I have no idea. But neither do you or anyone posting here. The reality is always different due to the complex nature of our human world. In the AI world, there will be winners and losers from different backgrounds or countries or other differences we don't see today. That difference may trigger envy which may trigger outrage, conflict and other reactions. To think things will be consistent among all is the fallacy. Humans are all different eliciting different responses.

I just merely showed you a real world example of what UBI is doing today.

The impact of different technological developments may well be different.
