A few thoughts.
1) In general, the "sky if falling, we are near the end" mindset is one that virtually all humans have had throughout history.
2) The decline in traditional religion has been offset by the rise in what i call the 'global warming religion.' People like to have meaning in life.
3) Unlike most of my friends, global warming doesn't concern me too much. There are way more humans enjoying a great life than ever before. SOmething like only 117 billion humans have EVER existed. We have 8 billion right now. The solution is simple, nuclear power adn electric cars and if it still gets hot, then we move north and build more efficient cities. Or we reflect some son.
Except that before, people didn't have mountains scientific data to back up their end of world theories. I'd say your belief that it will all be alright is the more "faith-based" one in this argument. It is not a given that any of those solutions will work, and even if they do, the biosphere may be horribly depleted for millennia.
