For the past two years Ron Mann (Hall of Fame coach and coach of the NAU program from 1980-2004) and I (Matt Baxter - NAU athlete from 2016-2018) have teamed up to put together the story of this incredible program. I was fortunate to be on three of NAU's national championship teams during my time as an athlete at NAU. Ron and I have put together a story that anyone who is passionate about collegiate running can get excited about. The book will be released in September 2023 and tells a story that no one knew in its entirety...until now. This book explains how NAU has become a dynasty and Flagstaff has become a mecca for endurance athletes.
"Running Up the Mountain: Northern Arizona Altitude, Lumberjack Attitude, and the Building of a Distance Dynasty" is going to be a must read. If you would like to support our Kickstarter campaign to help us get this book ready for a big release in 2023, check out our page at Kickstarter .com and search "Publish the inspiring story of NAU cross country and Flagstaff."
You can also find more information about the book on our Kickstarter page.

I love the history of running and the culture of distance running as much as running itself, so this will go on my bookshelf, Matt, if it comes out!

Not quite 9 months, but books are almost in Flag. So here is your reminder.
Are the books widely available now?
I ordered it a couple months ago. I like it
It’s a good read, I’d recommend it.
It’s a true chronicle of the history of the program. Doesn’t over-index too much on the recent dominance.
really enjoyed the background on Flagstaff’s evolution as a running destination in the lead up to Mexico City Olympics
Just got my copy yesterday and can’t put it down! Beautifully illustrated and it’s such an easy read. Love the behind the scenes of how Heins and Smith were hired and the details of Jim Ryun and Billy Mills training at NAU. Great job Matt and Ron on this masterpiece. If you have any ties to NAU or Flagstaff, you will absolutely love this book!
It’s sold out, Amazon ship date moved 1 month to 12/7. BAM told me 6 weeks!

AGREED!
How long for the next printing to be available? It's great for the authors that the demand exceeded the initial supply!
