I think you are wrong and somewhat obsessed by Fox News brainwashing. This is not some made up Fox story. The governor of California (Newsome) signed state legislation in 2020 establishing this reparations task force, and the task force has been working on a report on reparations since, including whether they are needed, how much is needed, and how it should be paid. They issued a 500 page report on this. Presumably the California governor and legislature is taking all this seriously, which is why I consider some form of reparations to be enacted into law in California by 2024.
You consider this all some fakery by Newsom and the California legislators who created the task force? I think that's a pretty cynical view. A conspiratorial view too -- it would seem to almost impossible for some many political leaders to conjure up a fake task force, fake report, fake legislation, etc.
That is not what I said. You don’t need a “fake task force” or “fake report” - just a non-binding one.
Why do you feel the need to lie about what are people are saying?
What are you talking about? I didn't lie about anything. Your position is unclear and full of cheap cynicism. I asked a question to try and understand what you are saying other than "Fox News brainwashing."
This California reparations task force that governor Newsom established is widely reported, including reports by the New York Times and Newsweek which I posted above. It's discussed on the governor's website. This isn't some fake Fox News story like you and two other posters are, for reasons unknown, suggesting.
The governor of California and the state legislature consider reparations seriously enough to have passed legislation and established a large public task force to consider the issue. We have every reason to believe that popularly-elected Governor Newsom is not lying when he says he wants a reparations bill passed. The California reparations task force absolutely will submit its recommendations to the California legislature in June 2023, and I predict California and Governor Newsome will act on those recommendations and pass some kind of reparations act by 2024. Just because you apparently think the California legislature will ignore the report and won't pass any reparations law is no reason to call me a liar -- my prediction on this is as valid as yours and appears to be based on substantially more facts than you have considered. Your branding of the whole thing as "Fox New brainwashing" seems really ignorant of all the ongoing work and political support that California reparations has.
Newsom is running for President. This is analogous to Biden's college loan forgiveness plan he put out earlier this year. It is not going to happen but it buys votes from those who think it will.
Who qualifies is interesting. For example, the reparations would probably be paid to everyone, including those younger than 18. But then there would be babies born after the initial reparations. Would this program continue into the indefinite future to cover all black infants? Inter-racial marriage would then become a much more attractive option.

Maybe. I wouldn't call the loan forgiveness plan DOA just yet.
In any case, that's not what that Wounded Ego poster seems to be arguing. He's saying the whole thing is a farce that's being promoted by Fox News. He's completely wrong on the Fox News take, and that's obvious by now. This is widely reported.
I think we have every reason to believe that Newsom and many more California political leaders are serious about reparations, and we can see that by the substantial amounts of work they have done to try and make it happen. There will be a report from the California reparations task force in June 2023, and the California legislature and Governor Newsom will take it seriously and will propose legislation modeled on the report. Cheap cynics like Wounded Ego can claim it's all a pretense for something that no one believes will or wants to happen. I think they are wrong and I think California will pass a reparations bill modeled on the report they specifically commissioned. How am I "Fox News brainwashed" with that belief? (I seldom even read Fox News, maybe skim headlines every few days).

Loan forgiveness was designed to DOA. The president does not have the power to do this -- would have to go thru Congress -- and the Biden people knew this.
“The taskforce is looking at when these harms started and finished. Only those Californians who are actually descendants of Black Americans from the 19th century will be eligible. As for amounts, the Guardian cited one attendee at the taskforce meeting who put the number at $350,000 per person: "Max Fennell, a 35-year-old coffee company owner, said every person should get $350,000 in compensation to close the racial wealth gap and Black-owned businesses should receive $250,000, which would help them to flourish." He added, "It’s a debt that’s owed, we worked for free. We’re not asking; we’re telling you." The task force's economic consultant team estimated California would pay $223,200 per person in early December.”

I'm absolutely in favor of reparations. If slavery is a deep moral wrong fundamental to this country, affecting millions of people whose descendants today still remain significantly poorer than whites--only 57 years after much of legalized segregation was outlawed--then reparations are owed and must be significant enough to fundamentally change the dynamic of this country's racial environment. So, I am more than happy to do something systemic with my and other people's tax dollars, and it is the right thing to do. Fixing what you did is hardly unconstitutional. It should have been unconstitutional in the first place to have slaves (once there was a constitution). To do something about it is only right.
Everyone involved is long gone/dead....Why punish people who have no connection to slavery? My people came recently from Europe and I don't believe in collective guilt...
