Yes. Thousands of college runners are professional runners. But I was referring to the pros who no longer run in college because the OP didn't limit the question to college and Tuohy got embarrassed by pros this year and she will always get embarrassed by pros. That and Valby is a terrible runner who will glide away from her on the track.
Guessing you meant that she is a terrible hill runner which she is. We heard about that for the week leading up to the meet as the reason that she would lose to Tuohy. That was true. Tuohy is a powerful runner while Valby is a runner who relies on rhythm. But that gives her the advantage on the track.

This is a good point and why Valby should seek out non flat courses next year. The VA course has a lot of ups and downs and requires frequent stride changes. The Wisconsin course does the same to a lesser degree. Tuohy has already run these courses so advantage for XC is Tuohy. I would say Tuohy has better burst of these 2 so advantage in Indoor track is Tuohy. Outdoor Track will somewhat even things out. One might argue the 10,000 would be better for Valby...but she only runs 25 mpw. But if Tuohy makes a mistake or gets boxed in she can be beat if someone gets the jump on her.

i think having more speed is the advantage in track, and a brain, specially indoors
tuohy vs valby 3000m and 5000m in indoor track would be good for the sport but dammmit why havent katelyn tuohy ran a mile race since forever .. shes so capable of breaking the mile collegiate record
Tuohy isn't the best miler. Upcoming woman like Whittaker will be faster. Wiley will be faster but they won't see her. Engelhardt may run faster in high school.
Does anyone else think Parker will have a better chance of beating Katelyn at the 5k in track this year assuming she stays healthy? Not saying she definitely will but I think warmer weather, no hills, and not having to figure out how to run tangents plays more to her advantage. She almost beat KT with those things going against her at NCAA XC

I would not bet against Tuohy right now at 1500m - 5k. Valby looks like a 10k runner to me.

whittaker is an 800 runner, her fastest mile is 4:36 ? katelyn's mile is 4:25 (4:06 conversion)
wiley from a doping program?? u really going to add her name? the best 2 runners in their program admitted that they were doped by their coaches

She did NOT get embarrassed by pros. What folks don’t seem to remember is that in an interview, Tuohy herself said something to the effect that she was enjoying her experience and was “fan girling”, etc. meeting all the big name pros. It was an experience for her, she had no concern about her result at USATF Nationals.
We were embarrassed for her as fans. She was so good in high school and is so dominant against college competitors but it just goes to show how far behind the best runners she is.
The East Africans will eventually put her in her place.
She is following a very steady and solid natural progression and when the time comes she will be competitive with the best. As for the people pointing to her 13th at Nationals, that race came after a long collegiate season against people training specifically for that meet and it looked like the wheels were coming off a bit. When she runs that one for real look for her to be national champion.
I always thought that she was a hard worker. Cook was faster in high school and now as a freshman in college. She is doing it on talent while Tuohy did it through hard work. But hard work can't get a runner has its limits. Valby and Cook clearly have so much more talent and upside.
Valby and Cook are much more talented. Tuohy outworks them.
Well, they do different work. But maybe valby and cook could benefit from from more running? Or get injured? I guess they know themselves. Its easy to say just becuase of this race X training is inferior. But how do you explain Valby destroying the rest of the field like Tuohy?
