I don't understand all the issues with Qatar? If you chose to hold your competition in this country then you should be respectful of their laws. All of this was known going in. If gay rights, or women's rights, or the right to drink beer were so important, then you should not have accepted bids from places that do not allow those things.

One of the "best" narratives of the Qatar bid was that it was the aforementioned Hassan Al Thawadi constantly plugging how the World Cup was going to be used to showcase the "new" Qatar to the world and how it was going to show that the "new" Qatar was a progressive and accepting place to live and culture.
All that did though was reinforce an underlying theme with FIFA in general which is/was how these guys covered up (justified) corruption with this veil of "the improving of....." In 2010 it was "We are bringing to the World Cup to Africa to grow the game and improve the lives of all Africans". In 22 it's the exact same thing.
So to your post, you are fundamentally right - if you choose to hold a world cup somewhere you should follow the laws of that country. I don't think anyone believes Qatar should change their laws/constitution just for a soccer tournament. The question is why you should even need to be in a position to even contemplate that. But then again maybe FIFA is all about anti-homosexuality and gender inequalities - then it's our choice to support them through watching their product (the WC) I guess.
I don't know crap about soccer, but I know that middle eastern countries are not known for their liberal stance on homosexuality, women's right, etc. Because of that I would have never even considered them as a host.

Me I am supporting Qatar, I am sick of the Teachers telling 5-10 year old's to get a sex change operation and taking the children to Drag Queen shows and having Men Compete against Women in Women only events and hearing them say Men can get Pregnant and other Nonsense, call me whatever Phobic you want, I still will be against Grown ups talk to kids at very young ages who are not theirs about sex change operations, they should leave kids alone, but I guess everyone is supposed to approve and be happy about it, I will be the exception, one of the extremely few who are against it.

I also don't think we need a world where kids are being challenged to think about their gender identification at the age of 5, or a world where people now believe a man can get pregnant, or a world where men decide they are now women and get to compete against them in sports. But, and there is always a but - I think this is very different to simply allowing a LGBTQ person to live freely in a nation and go watch a f--king soccer match.
I think the odd juxtaposition here is that you have Qatar as a nation and FIFA as a sporting federation talking about "progression", "growth", "inclusivity" and all the popular catchphrases of the era - and yet there are clearly issues with being a gay person in the country and society that is holding this event.
Ultimately there is a part of me that does think you don't need to be showing up with your face painted with a rainbow waving an LGBTQ flag broadcasting your sexual preferences - just go watch the sport for christs sake. All of this is aside from the fact that Qatar bribed its way to a world cup and shouldn't have been picked to host the marquee event of a global governing body that champions certain ideals that contradict those of the host nation.
