In the above scenario, what purpose did the OP's thread serve?
This is a discussion board. It's a place to discuss things. We discussed this issue and people shared thoughts and information. Some angles were suggested that I hadn't previously considered. Several people found the subject interesting.
Are you looking for some greater purpose in a thread on a discussion board? If so, you may want to consider reassessing where you attempt to find purpose in life.
Perhaps you weren't around during the frenzies surrounding other accused cheats, several of whom had their real lives turned upside down, one killing himself, after being dragged this way. Talk about bottom feeding! Goulish, soulless stuff here.
If you have suspicions about a performance, sent am email to the race director and let it go.
Between this sort of thread and the oh-so-common right wing and borderline fascistic content on LRC, I'm not sure that runners aren't some of the most horrible people around.
Who knew that fun-runners harbor such dark hearts?
Runners care about race results. This shouldn't surprise you.
Someone brought up a suspicious result. An explanation was discovered. This is precisely what a discussion should accomplish.
If it had turned out that the person in question had a record of questionable finishing times stretching back a decade, we would be having a much different discussion right now. And rightly so. If you cheat at races, don't be surprised if you get discussed on a running discussion forum.
"If you have suspicions about a performance, sent am email to the race director and let it go."
We've seen how interested most RDs are in setting the record straight. In the most infamous LRC case multiple RDs didn't really care that the results were suspect.

Don’t forget the continual bashing of someone being very open about her mental health struggles, or a guy posting YouTube videos that no one is forcing them to keep watching. It’s like sitting in front of a computer screen all day and anonymously tearing other people down is the only way they can feel good about themselves.

There was another recent thread about a suspicious race result, and it very shortly became apparent that the poster had encountered a phenomenal runner in an unexpected place. The discussion wrapped up quickly, but it was still interesting for purposes of a World Famous Message Board, and there was no wrongdoing (just as appears to be the case here).

Lol! Boy do you come off as a self-righteous tool.
Of course I hate the right wing extremism on here but your posts actually sound verbatim like a right winger complaining about "cancel culture." Isn't liberals answer to that accusation that y'all are just " holding people accountable" when you Twitter mob someone into losing their jobs over something they said? Yup.
But I guess you give cheaters a pass because...... "fair competition" is a tool of cis gender patriarchal white supremacy ?
Just looking at the results, seems like the woman in question switched her entry from the half marathon to the 10K, along with her friend (both from Austin). Both have two bib numbers shown:
The friend has one bib under the half marathon with a DNS or DNF (no result shown) and one bib (#452) in the 10K with a result
The woman in question has two bibs that are both for the half marathon. One has no result and the second (#453) has the result shown
Seems most likely bib #453 was supposed to be for the 10K (just like #452) but there was some kind of error in switching the registration that hadn't yet been sorted out in the preliminary data posted. #453 is also the only bib over 400 that's in the half marathon results.
Remember when the LRC crowd hounded and pestered someone over a minor age-group race result until they committed suicide?
It's almost like maybe we should let this one go.
"Minor age-group race result?" He falsely claimed an age-group world record -and crowed about it while coaching high schoolers, and in print and media ads for his business- and that was only one part of a calculated, carefully-plotted, years-long scheme of cheating that took in numerous races.
I don't have any opinions on this specific case but the cheater threads always bring out the cheaters strongly opposing even mild disapproval of cheating. It would be good if they were not so transparent and had some new bogus arguments instead of the old bogus arguments that mostly involve whataboutery.
Did she claim her prize and the trophy? This could be someone who cut the course just to 'finish' and go home. Probably didn't even know she won.
This and did they do the 10K and half marathon together or in a way where she could have run the 10K and they accidentally placed her in the half results? Based on the times the OP gave it seems like this would make sense for her in a 10K.

The 10k was an out and back that consisted of the first 3.1 miles of the half. The half was a 13.1m loop. The 10k started 30 minutes after the half so you had finishers from both races crossing the finish mat at the same time.

Good lord, you make it sound like he heisted the Hope diamond.
I don't know yet if she claimed the prize, but she definitely would have known, as the announcer was very on top of things and would have made a big hullabaloo about the first female finisher.
Even if she didn't claim the prize, the website still lists her as the winner, and the 2nd place female, named Mary Noel, is an accomplished runner and should be awarded the prize.
Btw, Jordan Hasay won the 10k event.
Must be nice to go for run and win prizes at these small races about 100% of the time… maybe next year, she’ll do the half.
Never happened. The LRC crowd discussed the case back and forth for months until we finally came up with conclusive proof of cheating. There was no record of any contact or attempted contact between the thread participants and the cheater. The people who did the pestering were national media outlets who found the story noteworthy.
If you don't like the outcome, 1) tell your friends not to cheat; 2) tell your friends that offing themselves over getting caught cheating isn't worth it; 3) go complain to the national media outlets that actually reported the story. Tell them to stop reporting on newsworthy stories. See how far that gets you.
Good lord, really? You people still won't accept any responsibility even now?
Be a better person.
So we should never discuss or call out actual cheaters?
