Don't make me throw up my breakfast. You obviously do work for the NYRR as a paid shill. Only someone like a hired public relations agency would say that the way overpaid NYRR executive shouldn't be paid less. I'm sure their hard work of ordering from the catering menu for lunch everyday is daunting.

At Mt Sac JC the location of the World's Toughest Cross Country Course, World's largest Track and Field Meet held at the World's Most Storied, Honored, Celebrated, and Famous Track and Field Facility, they pay the professional doctors and medics and invite athletic trainer students from the Los Angeles area. "Refuse"? Not the case at all. Volunteers are used at all charity sports events.

I have no problem with the NYRR or the BAA or my local running club or any other not-for-profit organizations who produce races asking for, and getting, volunteers to help with the many duties it takes to produce a race. I also have no problem if some of the key people in those organizations like the RD get paid.

I do have a problem, when for-profit companies like the WTC (Ironman and Rock N Roll marathons) solicits for volunteers to produce their races. For me, if you want to organize your business as a for-profit, sell shares of stock to investors or have profits that will go to the owners of the business, to me that's when you shouldn't be asking anyone to volunteer to work for your company.

NYRR's executives aren't remotely overcompensated.

Charity Navigator gives NYRR a 10/10 for the percentage of the budget going to programs (a stellar 86.7%, where 70% is enough to get you a perfect score). Considering the size of their annual budget ($100 million) and the high cost of living in NYC, the salaries of the people on their IRS 990 are all pretty modest and compare favorably with other non-profits. By contrast, Max Siegel gets $1.2 million and USATF has a budget of only $35 million. That's wildly out of line with comparable non-profits, and far in excess of what's necessary to attract talented executives.

I'm sure the NYRR didn't do any creative accounting with expenses. Overpaid CEOs and executives are well known for not engaging in dodgy loopholes and writeoffs to enrich themselves.

Los Angeles the de facto Permanent Olympics Training Camp for global elites of all sports, and the World Largest running community at our 200 mile beach from San Luis Obispo to Chula Vista, with runners 365 day a year, 250,000 on weekdays, up to 2 million per day on weekends, has no volunteer medical staffs. We use taxpayer funded City and County services primarily. Sometimes the schools will patch us up but if it's an emergency they call 911.
