You have it backwards. She is not a great middle distance runner anymore. That skill set has diminished. However long road races are a different skill set and speed isn't necessary to succeed. Her training background over the years alone give her a nice base to build upon. That's why she's moving up.
Jenny cannot handle the requisite training any more. She has had her shot at being a good runner. Injuries and aging will prevent anything other than mediocrity.
boring and anonymous precisely because of the obsessive patriotism and nationalism of the average American (this is not a concept unique to america but you guys are particularly bad for it). how bizarre and bigoted it is to support an inferior runner more because they were born on a particular piece of land, especially in a globalised world.
