Believe it or not, many women don't find motherhood appealing or important. Men who try to force their opinions on women that there is nothing better than motherhood are akin to medieval religious fanatics in my book.

Personally, despite being a woman, I can't understand why an athlete would choose to go through pregnancy in their prime performance years. I just think that such athletes aren't all that dedicated or motivated to go as far as they can in their sports careers.

No. The minority of women don't want children. Most women would do anything to have children. They go through treatments and surgeries and take drugs. Some have resorted to stealing babies or killing for them. I estimate that 95% of women want children.

Because biology sucks that way. Prime performance years coincide with prime fertility years. The number of eggs you produce goes down as you age.

It's cool if you don't want kids, but calling those who do less dedicated or motivated is just plain sexist, whether you're a woman or not.

Many US distance athletes have delayed childbearing to early or mid 30s, Elle is only 27. Not fair to say people didn’t return to top form when many have been on the tail end of their running careers anyways. Elle will have time to get back to top form of she wants. Regardless, congrats to her and her husband, exciting news!

I believe it is more common in sports for women to wait til later in their careers. Then it would be tougher to return to form.
