Thought this would have popped up on LRC but haven’t seen anyone post it yet.
Can someone explain how they know she was dragged into a black SUV? Did someone happen to see it happen that early in the morning it was it caught in camera or what?
I still haven’t found the answer to this question in any of the news articles I saw.
I lived in Memphis twice in the 90s. crime was everywhere. Violent, often drug and gang related, but plenty was random too. Remember the girl killed at Oak Court Mall on Poplar during Christmas season and not even noticed in her car in parking deck for several days? Sorry, I don’t believe it’s a safe place at any hour. Random opportunistic crime, crime for no reason at all, it has it all. I’m saddened for this young lady and her loved ones and friends. As others noted, I don’t think this will have a good ending.
We've had 52 interstate shootings this year. Nearly 5000 car break ins and 30 in one place in one night. Something like 150 carjackings. And it can happen anywhere along the Poplar corridor, not just in the hood.
A Rhodes college student was killed during a home invasion last year.
The problem is a swelling population of severely undereducated, desperate young people that have no hope and a lot of anger. They have no power, except through guns and violence. The city's tax base is suffering, so it's difficult to hire more police officers (we need about 300 more), and even if you have the money, it's hard to recruit officers. The ones on the street already fear for their lives, which is why we have people driving 100 MPH on I-240 without much enforcement.
And the city still has a major race issue. The death spiral began in the 1970's with busing. The white population fled to the suburbs and private schools. It's still highly segregated to this day. I hope this is a contract job with a ransom and that she emerges unharmed, because if it's random, and it turns out to be some thug killing, it's going to be awful. We will have lost a bright young woman, a mother and a teacher, to mindless violence, and there will likely be a lot more people leave Memphis. Our best and brightest will go away to school and never return.

A witness reported seeing her pulled into the SUV after a brief struggle. They found her water bottle and phone. Hoping she was wearing a watch or buds that would provide GPS data.

Thanks, looks like it was captured on camera as well as per the dailymail article:
”Chilling surveillance footage captured Fletcher's final moments before being abducted, as well as a grainy image of the car that took her.”
Strange that a billionaire heir would be working as a junior kindergarten teacher, it’s not the easiest job and pays little.
I read the article, she isn't a billionaire. While her mother's company does billions in sales, it isn't really clear if the victim had any piece of that currently. I would guess not considering that she was an elementary school teacher.
I've read and watched enough crime stories, and this sure has the feel of "marital problems" and a contract killing. I hope not of course, but getting yanked into a car at 4am is not usually conducive to being seen alive again.

Still seems unusual unless she was estranged from her family. The norm is for the immediate heir to get a cushy job in their wealthy family business unless they are doing or pursuing something better on their own. Maybe she really found happiness in teaching toddlers.
Memphis Police are looking for two men allegedly involved in the abduction and robbery of a mother and her 1-year-old this week. It happened in a Target parking lot.
Really? In Chicago, crime has spread everywhere, and normal people are being shot in the North side. In Baltimore, you walk a little too far and you end up in The Wire. Fells Point? You can walk into public housing and/or other warzones. Mount Vernon? Take a wrong turn and you're in Sandtown Winchester.
Someone asked why their post was deleted. We deleted it because you quoted a very offesive post mocking her for not running faster. If we delete a post, we normally try to reply to delete all replies to that offensive post as well as they make no sense and give more publicity to the post we don't want on here.
People sincerely putting forward the idea of running with a gun is utterly absurd.
God damn your country is f*cked.
You may not know this, since you don't live here but, for a variety of factors/reasons, the U.S. is a very violent society. For certain political reasons in the last two years, it has become even more so. Most American cities are not safe places to be right now. Having a gun -- especially in this situation, where a woman is alone in the dark -- is one way to protect yourself. So call America "f*cked" all you want, but that is the reality, whether some political groups want to pretend otherwise or not.
I don't think it was appropriate for you to alter the subject and include "billionaire heiress". Her family owns a hardware store that did $3 billion in sales. Not the same thing as being a billionaire.

you've got a lot of job to do, them. lots of thread have deleted posts that are quoted in another posts. maybe make it automatic?

In fairness, Baltimore has been like that since the mid 1990s, at least.
Daily Mail's comment section is less aggressively moderated so the reading is more interesting. Based on likes, most everyone over there is deeply suspicious of the husband's involvement for several reasons. Also, many comments question running at that hour. Yes, it is LEGAL to leave $10,000 cash on your driveway and you SHOULD be able to do it. But it isn't smart.
