Ding ding ding!! They are all of the special sauce. It's so painfully obvious. Their coach was banned for breaking anti-doping rules, and now they are struggling because they aren't getting the drugs anymore inside of hollowed out books. It's too coincidental that they all rapidly declined after Salazar was booted out. Man, sucks to be clean I guess.
lazy take. so Rupp dropped a clean 2:06 low in 75 degree heat in Chicago last year? or he was never doping to begin with? which is it?
obviously Galen doesn't work with Pete but the comparison still applies.
No I believe rupp at this stage is starting his decline but has the talent that let him still run a 2:06 while not being in the salazar regime. He knows what works for him so I think he’s different than the others.
however, rupp was a 2x Olympic medalist under salazar and probably would have a 2:03ish PR right now had salazar not gotten banded.
they’re clean!! Look at Hasay and look at mo Farah. They did nothing after salazar was gone from the picture.
She ran 4:01 or 4:02 with a 3:58 pr and this race had the horses to follow to get another major pr. That's why I say she underachieved at World's. We need distance runners who can do their best at the championships, not multiple seconds worse, as nearly all of our distance runners did. I blame the coaching for a lot of that.
Salazar used a doctor (Brown) who would put them on asthma or thyroid drugs and coached them on getting the doctors to do that (run up the stairs to the office, for instance). He had them given injections of a supplement in 2012 that were over the maximum per day and which his assistant coach said had a spectacular effect on him. He tested out testosterone on his son and prozac on himself in 1994. His athlete Mary Slaney tested over the limits for t/e around 1996 and was banned. He ran with Athletics West, which experimented with steroids and other drugs and had a doping doctor. So, there's not just smoke and mirrors.

yeah but you can't realistically expect each athlete to PR every race or run a time that is equivalent to their best time ever in a championship style race after multiple rounds (although I do realize the women's 1500 went out hot and the top 3 pretty quickly seperated themselves from the rest)

Great race by jess hull today coming off covid and consistent race by sinclaire the pete haters don't know what they are talking about.

And even greater race by Koko today. She should be glad she didn't fire Julian. ;)
'Thank you Sonia so much, I send you lots of love... I know you won the title in Munich as well!' Koko Klosterhalfen gives a shout-out to her coach Sonia O'Sullivan in the RTÉ studio after her stunning win in the 5000m final #rtesport#Munich2022pic.twitter.com/fDeZ2yPFSn
Over the last few days, on TV, Sonia has stated that she is coaching Koko. The interview confirms it. I'm sure Sonia will write about her coaching experience with Koko in the Irish Times.
That's the biggest bologna sandwich I've seen in a while.
Agree. Anyone and everyone close to the situation knows Julian is very much Koko's coach. He directly coaches all of the athletes on his current squad, for better or worse. If O'Sullivan is suggesting otherwise on Irish TV, no chance she has been, it would not go well with the Union athletes and Julian.
Right. As an assistant coach - an excellent one. There is this thing called a "team" in which coaches actually work together. At any given time these athletes can be in three plus locations. Julian is one guy. So what do you do? You send a member of your coaching staff to each location. O'Sullivan was in Europe for other reasons and Koko was based out of Germany for a while so you do the math. You do also realize that this interview was for an Irish outlet, right?
I'm no Salazar fan but I did find this interesting. Walking to the stadium in Eugene I saw KoKo warming up for the 5000. She was just running around the streets of Eugene. I couldn't help think in year gone by she would have had an ice vest and much more structured warm up than just running in the streets with a german t shirt as her top. I have no idea if ice vests work. Just thought it was interesting contrast about how she warmed up now compared to how I imagine she warmed up with AlSal.
Before the 10000m start, Sonia said on TV that she's Koko's coach (not assistant). All over social media, it's being reported that she coaches Koko (by her, her co-presenters, other coaches, and journalists) with no mention of Julian or anything about her being a watergirl. If you're right, then it's bad form from Sonia but I can't see her trying to pull off that sort of stunt.
Well, on German TV Koko said that she and her coach had a discussion if she actually should run the 5000 and then she called him to say that she really wanted to run.
Interesting. If that's the case then Sonia needs to come clean and stop taking the plaudits for Koko's/Julian's success. Strange that she would say that on national TV and allow everyone to believe it.
Maybe it just got lost in translation. Around the time of XC EC Sonia was just some sort of mentor to Koko. PJ is still her head coach and Sonia probably an assist
*assistant coach as it says on the UAC website (https://www.unionathleticsclub.com/team). Also as someone else already mentioned, PJ discussed the double with Koko and when she eventually confirmed she was doing the 5.000, he got onto the very next flight to see her run.
There is no arguing that PJ is having success with the women's team. It is then men he has destroyed. PJ can keep coaching the women but they need someone else coaching the men
