1. He doesn't do longer tempo runs. He does intervals at lactate threshold.
2. What pace? He doesn't run to any prescribed pace - he runs to a designated effort, which is designed to produce a lactate reading below 4 mmol.
3. Even if he did do "longer tempo runs", that wouldn't be remotely relevant to the point I've previously made. Holding "tempo" pace, and running under 27 minutes for 10k share no relationship.

The point remains, absolutely nothing about Kipchoge's career before 2013 suggested he could go on to be the untouchable marathoner he has been. He won nothing over 5000m and rarely broke 60 for HM. You're kidding yourself if you think you would have predicted he'd be the GOAT based on his pre-2013 career. Late development happens and in Kipchoge's case, it was probably very late given the speculation about his actual age
Again you're misrepresenting the facts here. Kipchoge was running incredibly fast all the way basically until his move to the roads. The last few years he struggled in tactical/slow races, but in 2011 he ran 7:27.66 for a 3K in old spikes and in 2010 a 12:51 5,000. He ran 12:55 in 2012 even as his track days were winding down.
And in the Half Marathon, he ran 59:25 in his first attempt (no supershoes obviously) which was the second fastest HM debut ever and only about a minute off the World Record at the time. From there he ran low-key HMs and never pursued records, so to say he "rarely broke 60" is misleading because he was fixated on the Marathon and not his HM tune-ups. We don't really know what his ceiling the HM is/was, but I'd be shocked if with Alphaflys his 2016 self couldn't run well under 58 minutes. This isn't to say his marathon GOAT status was predictable, but it wasn't a complete shock at all. It'd be much like if Hellen Obiri moved up to the marathon next year and started running 2:16 and getting wins. Some athletes just translate really well --> it seems Kiplimo and Gidey do better than Hassan or Cheptegei do at this juncture. Or Farah did.

Indeed. The more I watch Jakob run, the less I think he's a prototypical 1500/5000 runner. He can crush the 10000, I believe.
I enjoyed his response in this video to questions about the 10000 and steeple. He's certainly not lacking in confidence and says he would've done the 10000 at World's if it fit his schedule. You can skip to around the 6:00 mark.
Yes, just clarifying since you said "I don't think there has *ever* been a runner who could have gapped him". I still think that even in championship circumstances against Bekele and Gebreselassie (who were certainly no slouches when it came to fast finishes) Farah would have far more difficulty trying to pull off his long streak of medals. It surely would not be guaranteed.
You might want to learn something about the sport before your next post. Eliud was consistently a contender on the track and during the time you reference he got 4th in 2005 in Helsinki 5000m. Eliud got the Silver medal in 2007 in Osaka 5000m and another Silver in 2008 in Beijing 5000m. He broke 13 every year between 2003 and 2012 except 2008. He ran 26:49 and broke 27 at least twice more. So maybe you should brush up on the facts.

I am not certain how Wightman and Kipchoge are relevant examples to a discussion of Farah's late improvement to become a dominant 5000/10000 force. These were events Farah was already running. Kipchoge in his youth was better than Farah in his youth in the 5/10, but Kipchoge never became dominant in those events, and only became dominant when he switched to a different event -- the marathon. Wightman has won a single global gold and no global records, so is not dominant in the event.
I wish they could have pacers step on and off, like how Kipchoge’s marathon was paced. They could get people running 2:40 easily for 1k and then step off for another k.

Also he had some knowledgeable people in the UK who knew he could beat Steve Cram's 1500 British record. Apparently Cram was not one of them.
That is also true for Lance Armstrong. People just did not know what he could do but I know someone who tested him at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs when he was young and he saw potential.

Jakob is climbing a steeper slope from his 1500m to 5000m times so he should slow at a faster rate from 5000m to 10000m. I don’t believe the possibility of Grant doping is at all obvious. Is it obvious that Jakob isn’t?
