The Lafayette distance coach left, does anyone know why? He did a phenomenal job with the men and the women.
Expect the Lafayette distance teams to gradually decline back the the bottom of the league. You can hear a collective "thank god" coming from the campus of both Lehigh and Bucknell.
The speculation is Curcio refused to make him head cross country coach so he left. 90% of Lafayette alums I know hate Curcio, 50% of Lehigh alums I know hate Matt Utesch. 40% of AU alums are still in therapy because of Centro.
Why is she the head cross coach when she only coaches throws?
The above post has 15 upvotes and zero downvotes, that's very damning for Curcio. More people like Utesch who just got fired than like Curcio.
In case you needed more proof Curcio hates distance runners, their distance coach left in the beginning of August and they still haven't hired a new coach. This is different than Colgate doing that because Lafayette was actually good when DePaul left. Just finished 4th in the PL and were preseason #14 in the region. Now their All-Conference guy just ran 26:40 and their 1:52/4:08/9:19 freshman ran over 28 minutes for 8k on Lehigh's fast course.
It is a combination of Curcio not caring about cross country and every coach with an ounce of self respect not wanting to work for her. Career suicide to work for Curcio.

Curcio hates cross country so much that she literally hired a coach right out of rehab in 2016 (before depaul). Here - you can be supervised by someone from the insane asylum.
"According to players, Straub told the cross country team at a picnic the beginning of last season that he spent time in a rehabilitation center after being close with a student who died at Elizabethtown. They said he told them this to ensure that they heard it from him."
Cross country assistant coach Christopher Straub left his position, the college confirmed this week. A new track and field coach will be hired before the next season begins in the fall, Vice President for Campus Life Annette...
What up! PLC should be a blast!! Bucknell has changed its course around a lot since the good old days (2019 :) ). Has been fun to see the PL from so many angles over the last 4 years. Excited to see everyone come together in October

While at Bucknell we laughed at Lafayette because they always put District Championship on the schedule instead of Regional Championship. Curcio as head cross country coach doesn't even know the name of the meet to qualify for NCAAs.
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Boston University claimed three of the four Patriot League M-F Athletic Cross Country Runners of the Week when awards were announced on Tuesday. Bucknell captured one weekly accolade.
They went 3/4 because nobody raced this week besides them. Beantown field was laughable this year ie ‘Cuse and Harvard sending their C teams there. Should start to get very spicy the next two weekends.
I've been reading Let's run patriot league threads since 2016 and can confidently say this one might be the most unhinged yet. Let's keep it up team!!!
Nothing will ever compare to the patriot league threads from 2011-2013. Truly some legendary sh!t posting was done

Curcio has really given it her all to destroy the cross country program since Julio retired. I think they’ve been through 5 XC coaches in 9 years now. But somehow by the grace of god, they don’t suck. She has run through a bunch of sprint coaches as well. Ironically, the distance group is really the only event group performing well/contributing at Lafayette.

Curcio is such a bad coach that she tried to destroy cross country and failed at that too.
Depaul somehow brought them back from the grave. Before Depaul Lafayette was 10th out of 10 in the league in 2016. Embarrassed with 284 points on their home course. Beat by Colgate and Loyola. Their highest finisher was 73rd overall. They just finished 3rd in 2020 and 2021, each year getting up to 9 or 10 in the region.
Now that he's gone, she will succeed in destroying cross country. They still have no coach.
Depaul got Lafayette to do things they never should have been doing. Give credit to his coaching- he made it entertaining and deserved a GD massive raise for how he got his team to beat teams with 10 fold more scholarship dollars.
Navy at Notre Dame - 24:21 on harder course with Rizzo at 25:43
Bucknell at Boston - 25:27 on a harder course
Rizzo is really arrogant and terrible at long distances. Ran 4 flat in the mile but that means nothing anymore, didn’t even qualify for Nats. Now barely breaks 26.

He's run 8:02 for the 3k and he dominated some strong competition at his home meet 2 weeks ago. 3 runners that he beat from Richmond and George Mason ran 23:35 at Paul Short, 23:39, and 23:51.
However in 2021 he had a DNF at Paul Short, ran slow in the Army-Navy meet, and then didn't race again until indoors.
From someone who ran against Lafayette in the past four years and knew some of their runners, Depaul was a terrible coach, knew little about the sport, and treated the athletes on the team poorly. They did a lot of their own training and changed their own culture and what they accomplished was remarkable. Give credit to the athletes and not the coach.
Lafayette alum...have enjoyed watching the team progress over the past few years, but seeing some of their training/comments on Strava, something just seemed off like they are making it up on their own. I'm curious if you can shed any more light?

Navy should still win without him.
Agreed. I don’t like people coming in here to bash runners. I’m a real West Point grad and don’t condone this behavior
