I live up the I-5 freeway on the eastside of Seattle. I could easily go if I wanted to but I am not. I even have free housing at a friend's about 10 minutes away from the stadium. Even with all that I'm just interested in going.
Then you just aren't a fan of the sport.
Just not a "hardcore" fan of the sport. Didn't even go to the Brooks PR meet this year but went last year and noticed that the stands were pretty empty. Going to football, soccer , and basketball games are way much more fun and don't drag on like track meets do.
LOL at the losers complaining about Eugene, a perfectly serviceable college town that has successfully hosted major US championships for 50 years. Worlds is a step up but I doubt there’s another US city of any size that could draw a bigger crowd (the sport is on death’s door in the US — fact). Everyone here seems to be having a good time so far, myself included. The new stadium is fantastic, arguably one of the best if not the best track only facilities in the world.
OK, so here we are with the first evening session on a weekend. According to some posters, the crowds were small because "it is just a morning session; the evening sessions will be packed." Tonight is one of the premier events of the championships, the men's 100m, and there are A LOT of empty seats.

You must be able to drive there. Terrible location for everyone that isn't within driving distance. There is a very limited amount of places to stay bc the town is so small and not built for huge events.
LA, Mt. SAC or Austin would all have had bigger crowds, don't kid yourself. Not sure what world you're living in.
The stadium isn't all that it's cracked up to be. Limited restrooms and no cover from the elements unless you're way up top. Bottom bowl is exposed the majority of the day which was not the case with the old stadium.
The venue also is way too small for a championship. Go look at how many people the new Hungary stadium will hold.
Without the under-the-table deal Nike made with iaaf they would not have been in Eugene and it will never return after this crapshow.

It was a great meet with knowledgeable, enthusiastic crowds, too bad you missed it.
