Roe v Wade was decided in part upon reliance on a prior interpretation of the 14th amendment in Griswold v Connecticut. In that case, the USC struck down a law banning the possession, sale and distribution of contraceptives. The main basis for the opinion was the notion of a right to privacy that exists as part of the 14th amendments "liberty" guaranty. So, while it is true that women can still get contraception, there may not be any constitutional protection against a state law banning contraception after Roe's reversal. And it is not speculation as to whether states would ban contraception. Idaho and Louisiana are considering IUD bans. With Roe's reversal, right wingers will be empowered to try and ban contraception outright.
What will be fun to see is a counter offensive by Jewish groups who claim that abortion bans force Jews to adopt Christian views on abortion. Jews do not believe that a fetus has a soul and existing life should always take precedent over potential life. Thus, Jews believe that they should be free to have access to abortion and that is based on their religious faith. Abortion bans violate the free exercise clause of the Constitution, a favorite of Alito and Thomas.
Roe v Wade, gone. Abortion will become illegal in around half the states. I've said for years that if this happens, the Dems will get a boost. Tons of people will wake up feeling like the dog who caught the sports car and have some massive buyer's remorse. Millions don't want to live in a theocracy where the government has this kind of power over women. And many religious Rs can stay at home now and not vote, because they are one-issue voters and the deal is done in their state. And now moderate pro-life types can vote for Ds for congress, senate and WH. Because abortion doesn't matter any more nationally. Will be interesting to see if this causes a shift in politics, starting in November 22.
I agree. I’m pro-life but not a fundamentalist about it. Even if constitutionally unsound, SCOTUS should’ve left this alone. Combined w 1/6 Kabuki theatre, GOP trying to snatch defeat from jaws of victory.

From FEDERAL taxation. The states are free to impose what they wish on churches within their borders. It will be appealed to SCOTUS but, will the conservatives contradict themselves by declaring that state's do not have a right to self-govern as they see fit? Looking forward to property taxes being levied on churches, synagogues, mosques, and megachurches.

Fifty years ago, most babies born at 6 or 7 months didn't survive. Today, the vast majority of babies born at 6 or 7 months survive. Reflecting modern science, the supreme court, at least at the federal level is saying to women and medical community, in U.S. you have no right to kill a 4 to 6 pound premature baby.
