And none of the rest of us ever ran near "similar times" as Flatt's 100/200. As I said, you take home the HB gold this week!
Perhaps I am not understanding you; in high school I ran a slightly faster 100 and 200, but nowhere near as fast as this kid in the 400 and the 800. I was stating that his 100 and 200 times are slow relative to his 400 and 800 times. This was not meant to take anything away from Cole because like myself he probably only ran the 100/200 at dual meets among other events and it really does not matter because he is not a sprinter. Cole is way faster than I was in H.S. in the 800 (the event that matters to him) and he has a faster 800 PR in high school than I ran in the NCAA and post collegiate. - That's all I am saying!
Let’s let him be a high schooler before we say he does something that European and African 17-18 year olds do consistently. excited for his future but we have seen talent like this level out to 1:46 by the end of their career. Don’t put too much pressure on these guys.

Pressure is required to make mere carbon into a diamond.
You think to yourself - “What an amazing badass this kid is by running 1:47 + “ But then you Emmanuel Wanyonyi ran 1:43 at 17 and is ready to roll even faster at 18. He’s nothing on the bigger stage and is dwarfed by the Africans!

This is the Jakob comments in a nutshell. Running times that are good relative to people your age in your region is great and all. But getting to the elite level is what really matters. That being said Flatt is showing high-end upside. He's majorly improving this year and going to Ole Miss, which is a great spot for him to progress to being a 1:45 guy and contender for national teams. There's a lot to being excited about here and if he breaks the HSR this year, he is up there with the most promising 800m prospects the US has had since Brazier.
There is a comment on page one of this thread stating that he’ll turn 19 in November, which has 19 upvotes and 0 downvotes. I can’t say for sure that it’s factual, but I’ve seen absolutely no reason to doubt it. That of course would make him a completely normal age for a HS SR.
Well I know that is false. How do I know that? He was 14 on Aug. 3, 2017 (at at least a few days before when the competition started) Thus he would be at least 19 this August. This also would align that despite being two grades below Brandon Miller, they were separated by just 1 year in age-based competition: https://www.marshallcountydaily.com/2017/08/03/cade-flatt-wins-silver-at-aau-junior-olympic-games/
Look I don't want to read too much into Flatt's posts on the matter, but the level of defensiveness (I'm 18!) indicates to me that he turns 19 early. If his birthday was in November, instead of leaving some stuff out, he'd just as easily say "haters with this age stuff, I turn 19 in November." It's not a huge deal but he's definitely a little on the old side. Same for Natalie Cook, btw. And Noah Lyles.
I straight up asked him for his D.O.B. on his Instagram and he replied coyly “Still 18 ⚔️“ so yeah he’s probably either a bit old for his grade or he’s a rather strange dude. I appreciated the reply, though. Let’s hope he gets this record!

I've been following the Cade Flatt saga since New Balance. The link you posted doesn't claim he's 14 at that meet, only that he ran in the 14yr old division, which according to the AAU rules just means he would turn 14 at any point during that calendar year.

Of course, but that's par for the course. Just pointing out that the statement in question is *possibly* true, but that article doesn't say one way or another.
