I think he will probably run between 66 and 68. I think some of the hate here is unwarranted. The guy was literally driving for uber barely scraping by and he found a way to profit from running without being a superstar athlete. That is great. Is he the best runner? No. But he is certainly much better than most. He won pikes peak this past year with a world class ascent (faster than the ascent overall winner times and faster than Killians ascent time en route to his marathon win). I suspect that his overall plan is to try to get the olympic qualifying time this go around and then transition to more ultra distance mountain races. I would wager his videos of him in the mountains with his sweeping drone shots get more views than boring runs through denver. He has also stated his desire to move into coaching later which given his platform, he will likely have many people lining up when he does.
Overall, he seems like a nice guy that has had success by bringing running to more people. This is not a bad thing. I understand he is not everyones cup of tea, but there are plenty of running youtubers out there to watch instead.

I would also like an OTQ. I Also have no idea how to get one. So SJD and I have a lot in common.
It's exactly because he wants to get into coaching that he needs to be called out. He's already fleecing his members; we don't want him ruining runners, too.
I think it's a lil misleading to say he had the best ascent time this past year esp when you left out that the ascent race had snow, extreme cold and wind. During the marathon it was the most perfect day ever for the event. Keep in mind Gray has went faster and also keep in mind seth never won the ascent head to head with anyone. Kilian and Gray would have demolished seth head to head. History would say so anyways? Seth ran a fast ascent then literally walked the second half down. He isn't as elite as some fans would think. High altitude events are the only events which he succeeds, he has no versatility and craps the bed at major championship events. It's what separates good from great runners.

Exactly. 8 guys beat him on the way down. He's good at exactly 1 thing - running up hills in races with nobody in them.

Oh, look at the tough guys. You guys obviously haven't raced Pikes Peak, have you? When you're racing uphill, it is you and the hill, no one else. Period. They are basically time trials. Even my time in Europe racing VK's, all time trial formats like Tour de France, letting a runner off the line every 20-30". It's great to be great at 1 thing only. He's a 2 or 3 x champion so wake up.

Right.. He's 2x champ when nobody good was allowed in the country to run... so he's the best of the worst. congrats. something to hang the hat on right there.
Again, his fans misleading or perhaps it is seth writing under fake name? He did not win 3x, only twice. He won during Pandemic year where nobody strong was there. He also won last yr when all the top guys were in the ascent. He literally has never won a major event in the sport. Even when he ran the ascent he couldn't win, so he started running the marathon to avoid competition. Don't believe me? Look up the results on the Pikes page.

You have no idea how hard it is to make a World Team. How about this: line up this year and find out.
With his base and skill set if he had the minerals he’d have a crack at western states. But that usually attracts a hot field and he knows he’d get smoked and then the gig is up. Ditto Sierre Zinal or OCC for shorter events.

I've always thought that with some time to work out the kinks (eg nutrition) SJD has a lot of potential in the 100 mile and longer ultra races.

He would also have to work out logistics and tactics, which he is not smart enough to do by himself, and not smart enough to hire (and follow) a coach to help him with.

I believe he tried longer stuff and didn't do very well at it.

It's axctually remarkably easy for the U.S. There are so few decent qualifying races that most of the spots are picked based on resumes and applications, not qualifying times. The most stringent qualifier is "losing by as little as possible" because there are so few good American runners. The one time Seth fluked his way in, he finished 31st on an uphill course, which is supposed to be his specialty.
2022 Pikes Peak is an automatic qualifier for the US team. We'll see if Seth is the only one to show up again.
