This is the real point here and unsurprisingly no one (on either side) is actually making this point until now. Personally, I don't care that he's got a ton of money and is using it to live luxuriously and whatever environmental concerns there are are probably overblown. But these are the types of things Obama pretended to be against. I say good for him living good off of his hard work but I just hope he knows and accepts that he is not acting in a way that aligns with the policies he preached while in office.
Fun fact: You can be wealthy and still have a desire to help people in need through your policies. The true hypocrite is the govt. official that is rich and promotes policies that help rich, then lies about trickle down economics and tells poor people that they are just being lazy. Or worse, that they are communists or socialists.
You would think the man that said "you didn't build that" would live modestly and donate the rest of his wealth.
FWIW, I completely agree with you. I'm just going off of the things Obama has said in the past.
And I'm laughing at your take that conservative policies are hypocritical. You can call them slimy but they are 100% not hypocritical. At least they are being honest about their motives.

I think the only thing of note in this story is that it bears explaining how a middle-class American becomes an elected politician and is now worth $100 million dollars owning mansions in the ritziest places in America. I do not resent wealthy people who go into public service, but people like Obama who parlay their elected office and political influence into massive wealth or use the influence to grow family wealth I find quite disgusting.
I could care less about the stupid wall although pictures of Obama maskless standing right next to and talking to all the workers wearing masks summed up the whole covid experience for me.
Never should anyone have /had to wear a mask outside and you know it.
Never liked Obama, he never goty vote. But this doesn't bother me at all. Not even slightly. Good for him. He's worked hard and has paid the price. He grew up in Hawaii. I'm sure he will contribute substantially to the local economy.
And I don't buy for one second that he'll have any negative environmental impact.
This is what is funny to me...
1. A man who has claimed the oceans will rise if we don't change our policies buy a house on the beach.
2. That everyone is wearing a mask except him.
Do as I say and not as I do.... politics as usual, from both sides.

IKR. Im confused over 2 other things as well. One, the wall that prevents erosion is now bad? So, erosion good? I guess i buy that, let nature take its course and all. But that lot looks like it will be gone in a decade with almost no room, not sure i would buy it either without a wall. Wall looks like crap, but that property is almost gone .
Second, why did Magnum PI have a mansion on the ocean?

-Wouldnt that make him more a fan of oceans not rising? Nicely crafted !
2. That everyone is wearing a mask except him.
-Nobody says wear a mask outdoors, he's in compliance. Also nicely crafted!
So neither point funny at all. But perfect sense.

Theres truth to this.
1. very wall street friendly president (I worked on wall street and everyone LOVED him). He even let citi bank help pick his cabinet
2. not afraid to use commander in chief role to kill/drone people at large. ended the iraq war, then started it again by deploying troops against Isis (I know because I was one of those troops deployed). Is credited for the Afghanistan surge (not unlike the Iraq surge launched by Bush). He was essentially a republican hawk in terms of foreign policy
3. more guns sold in his presidency than ever before
4. deported more people than any republican president. earned nickname "deporter in chief"
https://www.npr.org/2017/01/20/510799842/obama-leaves-office-as-deporter-in-chief5. Sent his kids to prestigious private schools and bought multi million dollar gated estates after the presidency
6. Oversaw one of the biggest 8 year periods of wealth inequality than any president beforehand (richest few americans capturing more and more of the combined GDP).
7. Opposed gay marriage until he was forced to "change his mind"
Honestly sounds pretty based. Obama could have been a GOP hero if they marketed him that way.

Revisionist history. Obama was a "moderate" because Republicans blocked him from doing the radical things he wanted to do. That's not my opinion - that's exactly what he whined about for 8 years.
I grew up literally down the street from this property and visited the Magnum PI property as a kid for school picnics. There was no sea wall then. The locals are very upset, not just with the recent sea walls that are causing erosion and impacting endangered turtle breeding grounds, but also because these walls mean kayakers and paddlers can’t use the area. Furthermore they built giant walls around their mansions blocking views from the road. I know Obama personally. He’s an arrogant jerk and nothing like the person on tv.

yes blame the GOP.
forcing obama to drone people, deport people in record numbers, restart a way in iraq, have a troop surge in afghnistan, etc etc.
all their fault

Well it kind of is. If he didn't do any of those things, the GOP would run a campaign calling him weak and he would have lost re-election. Democrat presidents have to be evil warlords because literally every American president has to be. It's just part of the job.

The GOP is the reason for the shortage of leftist legislation to go along with it.
Not the GOP's fault his foreign policy sucked.

It’s not uncommon to see long food lines at the food bank in Waimanalo not far from this house. There are homeless people living in tents on the beach. At least he’ll see a reminder of his corruption while he’s vacationing.
Jamin sharing an anti-Obama article from a right-wing source. Hope everyone can see my shocked face through the keyboard.
Yes, just because Obama, one of the humans on this Earth who needs the highest levels of security possible, built a wall he is all of a sudden not in line with neo-liberal/liberal environmental policies.
This is click bait at its finest. Take this example. Ignore safety concerns. Represent his entire outlook on environmental issues off of it. I'm much more left than President Obama but c'mon ya'll can certainly come up with something better than this.

Everyone has the right to defend themselves. We live in an egalitarian society, not a monarchy.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10481075/Scowling-Obama-inspects-new-multi-million-dollar-Hawaii-mansion-controversial-sea-wall.htmlBarack Obama has been pictured at his new multimillion-dollar Hawaii mansion for the very first time, but he did not yet appear to be on island time.
Far from being in beach mode, Obama appeared to be deep in conversation as he spoke with workers from local building firm Armstrong Builders, who are currently constructing his beachfront compound on the island of Oahu.
Dressed in beige pants and a grey polo shirt, Obama looked tense as he was pictured speaking with builders and architects.
The former president could be seen scowling as he chatted Saturday with at least four developers who were working on the project.
Obama, 60, had his arms crossed the entire time the group were discussing the next steps in building the massive compound, while at one point he appeared to be gesturing as he pointed out things that presumably needed to be addressed.
Construction has been mired in controversy because the project used a planning loophole to retain a sea wall that is almost certainly causing beach erosion.
I've gradually lost respect for Obama over the years.

If you were a little more clever you'd realize that literally every source that you don't consider to be "right wing" is literally left wing.
There is no middle.
Why do liberals pretend facts aren't real if they aren't spoon fed to them by an approved source of propaganda?
He bought a multi-million dollar house at sea level while declaring that his new house will be under water soon...
Is he lying about sea level rise or just too stupid to understand what that wavy blue thing out his window is?
He declares walls don't work... and then builds a wall around every house he owns.
The man is a hypocrite regardless of where you get your news.
