Working with others can be a challenge if you are unwilling to meet them in the middle. I'd suggest you give this some thought and decide what type of person you want to be - someone who respects others or someone who doesn't. Doesn't sound like you were respecting the athlete's choices as well you are displaying a narrow mindedness with your statement 'Anyone who has coached high schoolers knows that a significant percentage of any track team have no interest in the sport but use it as an opportunity to give people grief.' Seems like you are looking for trouble.

Frankly, what makes this incredible is the notion that 'you' is banned. You is non-gender binary, and it is ambiguous even with the most forgiving assumptions to say, "Tabitha they need to go to the long jump." Is 'they' Tabitha or the other long jumpers? I am getting an increasing number of non-binary people and usually it is a simple adjustment--I have to remember to call them the name they want when I take roll even though a different name is on the roll sheet. One asked that I report my pronouns, which is an annoyance too far. I never have to say he, she, they in regard to them, so that part is easy.

I should add that the truly sad thing is that of those who have declared themselves non-binary or transitioning to another gender, none to this point have finished the term, and one has already dropped out this term after ten days. I believe that the reason is that they are undergoing an enormously traumatic situation and in all likelihood this decision, while thought to be helping them, is actually making them feel that much more isolated than ever before because all of a sudden they are not merely teens in an identity crisis--a very common issue--but now one in a hundred or a thousand and they have no clear place in the world. So, I'd say that we should be much slower to say that this is the right way to deal with their existential crisis and that we should recognize many of these kids will go through multiple identity solutions before arriving at their long-term choice. Kids are fickle and we shouldn't reify momentary decisions.

Don't use any pronouns. Just say, "Name go to the long jump pit, the event is starting". I will call anyone by whatever name they want but I refuse to use weird pronouns or call a him (born sex) a her or visa versa. I will not be a part of that delusion.

Really? A "significant percentage of any track team"? Granted, it may be common to have a few random people on the team who aren't all that motivated or whatever, but in my years on various track teams, I don't recall ANYBODY who used the track team "as an opportunity to give people grief".
