This slipped by so many people and I can’t believe that it took this long for anyone to realize.
Definitely starts with Mondo for messing up the start line considering it is their job to get it right.
Then the next in line are the EKU coaches. How do they not look things over and approve everything nor do they realize it changed locations. Everything about the track layout is the same as before except now the steeple start line is 60 meters away.
Next in line are the coaches and athletes at the meet. Surely out of a group of experienced coaches and 25-30 good steeplechasers, someone would think something was up. I get that not all steeple layouts are the same, but there should be someone that realizes that the start line shouldn’t be that close to a waterfall for any other standard flat race. Jamaine Coleman of Tinman Elite was a great steeplechaser for EKU. Did he not know where the start line for the steeple was in his own facility?
It just blows my mind how this got through so many people until after the races were run.

People have to realize, there was no other line to choose from on the whole straight. Coaches and athletes probably assumed it was a funky configuration. As for Jamaine or any of the staff, perhaps the stage was set in that they havent hosted a home track meet in almost 20 years!

I mean if the line said "3000m steeple" I just would have shrugged and thought well I guess the finish will be further up.

The real start line is not there anymore after they resurfaced. The wrong line, where the start occurred is absolutely labeled 3000SC. Of course competing athletes shrugged it off.

Seems like the sprints finish in front of the bleachers and distance races finish in the other side? I can’t really tell from the race photos where they started this race. Was it at the 5,000 start line?

To me it looks like in the old track the steeple start line was ~80 meters back in front of bleachers because the steeple pit is the entire curve cutting off a little over 10 meters per lap. And now with the new track the only thing changed is there is no start line part way back in front of the bleachers rather now it’s closer to where the mile would start or a steeple which only cuts a couple meters per lap. It looks like it was a difference of close to 8 seconds. big f*ck up on the track installation

I'm a college distance coach myself and I'm pretty shocked that the EKU coaching staff didn't realize right away that it was incorrectly marked. It's something I look at when I arrive @ every track that we travel to before the meet starts. For the home school coach to miss this is crazy to me. I mean, looking @ the pic of the men's start, it appears they're basically @ the 200m start which is a major red flag for a race that cuts off 8-10m per laps 2-7.

With a line specifically labeled "3000 SC," I don't know why any blame whatsoever would be placed on the athletes competing in the event, and especially the visiting athletes. If this was not the athlete's home track, why would it ever even cross the athlete's mind to second guess the officials overseeing the event, in addition to the permanent markings on the track itself? With warmups and other events going on, there's enough going on to distract the athletes. Further, the steeple pit is located at an unusual location at this track.
The starting line of the 1500 is not even remotely analogous to the start of the steeple. It's a standard race. The start and finish do not deviate. The format of the steeple chase deviates from track to track.
Does....does the steeplechase finish on the opposite side of the track from all the other events? The start/finish line appears to be on the stretch with the all the seating, which is also the stretch that has the steeple start? You can clearly see the one, two and three turn stagger starts on that corner and not the other, and the 4x1 exchange zones are clearly marked to finish at that finish line as well. But the steeple would have to finish on the opposite side? WHY?
