God knows I do not think Alan Webb made the right decision to leave Michigan. I think confidence and experience are things you gain in college.
But to criticize him for a race he won just seems stupid to me. Why does he need to blow everybody out of the water every time he steps on the track? This kid needs to get his confidence back after taking a bit of a beating in his only indoor races.
Winning a race is good at this stage, and running an off distance for him is probably a good thing, too. If he had won a 1500m in 3:47, I am not sure it would do much for his confidence, but a victory in his first track 5000m is a good thing. That should help him get back on track.
Sure he should be stronger and able to run much faster, but you cannot fault the guy when he won the race. Hell, that's the point isn't it? Now if he got outkicked, I could understand the criticism.
