Hunter skipped the NCAA experience to train like a pro and become world class. Clearly a huge advantage for your individual long term development if you have the HS credentials to do it.

Fisher went to Stanford and earned an engineering degree, while adhering to the NCAA three season framework.

3:35.9 - 3:36.2

7:39.9 - 7:42 (indoors two years ago)

13:21 - 13:11

Who would you rather be right now? (Especially considering they’re actually basically the same age.)

Just wanted to point out your hypocrisy. Carry on pointlessly ragging on one of our most talented young runners.

I didn't say he was better - I said he ran a faster time than they did in a "race" that was perfectly constructed for them, at a time of their choosing, at a time of year much more conducive to running quicker track times.

I can compare two races 6 months apart just as easily as you can compare him to Grijalva who's on a completely different racing schedule to him, probably in a completely different phase of training and managed to outkick him.

I'm not saying 7.44 is world class and the successful culmination of 5 years as a pro. I'm saying it's decent and not worth an entire thread of ridicule.

Oh and Nico Young only ran 8.05... Chinese women have run faster.

Dude, did you forget what website you were posting to? You're supposed to bash 1 of them. I have half a mind to report this. You can't encourage distance runners or see the good in anything. Drew was demolished. By 2 seconds. Anyone who watched the video knows this. He was left in the dust. In a November track meet. When nobody is in peak shape. Coming off of an injury. He's washed. His success would be bad for the country, and bad for the sport.

This. I am not hating on Drew. He's a great runner. He's among the pool of great youngish American runners. However, he's not the savior of American running that many on here think he is. AND THAT'S OK. Stop giving him unrealistic expectations that he can't hope to meet, and stop making excuses for him and his blowhard coach.

He is pretty much where most of us expected. Maybe more like a 13:15 guy but only the delusional fanbois though he would. be running 13:00s. When he was 23 Rupp was a 13:30/27:33 guy. That isn't really noticeably different. Webb was a whole different level of talent. Centro made his breakthrough in what would be the 2020 year for Hunter.

But you are right he (and Fisher) aren't young runners anymore. Time for them to step up and run those sub 13:10 and be contenders.

I've literally been saying the whole time that his run is nothing special, but certainly nothing tragic, thus rendering it OK. We are currently on page 6 of a thread criticising the guy for running a pretty decent starting "rust buster" for most guys at his sort of level.

I'm far from a fan boy of Drew, and certainly not one for his coach, but to criticise him for running 7.44 is obscene.

Also, it's easy to compare him to Webb, Rupp and Centro's based solely on PRs, but those guys had/have season openers too. Remember when Centro lost to Jacob when he was about 12 years old.

I hope Hunter is faster because he is American. You should always cheer louder for your own team. My team is not NAU. And my team is the USA at a world level.

Rupp at the same age and younger placed 13th at the olympics and 8th in the world champs in the 10k

Despite the fact that Drew has been a pro for 5 years he hasn't been training like Luis has. You can dig around on Strava to see some of Luis' training. You can also dig around to see some of the NAU training. He has been running way more mileage than Drew, at a higher altitude, and doing some workouts that Tinman would never prescribe. NAU isn't Stanford. I would argue that somebody like Grant Fisher has more upside than Luis.

Tinman doesn't train hard enough. They are soft. Hunter needs to be pushed and only trains at 80%. He's not in HS anymore....time to ramp it up. Drew has potential but how hard can he push himself? 80 mpw doesnt do it at this level.

I think we all realize why Hunter has to run 80 mpw.. he cannot handle more as his hard training in high school (80mpw+) really created his chronic imbalances and injuries that have slowed his progression.

Quite the talent, but second level at this point..

drew would probably be better off training with bowerman tc.
