Grant leaves it too late, with a faster pace at Worlds I'm sure grant doe sbetter
Probably. He actually judged this one pretty well. He had plenty left in the last 200, but Nico’s speed just overwhelmed him. Blanks had an ill-advised pass attempt right before 200…should’ve waited.
Yep. Personally, I feel Nico has a much better chance at the 5000 than the 10000. He has very fast finishing speed if the pace isn't hot in the middle
Pretty awesome how Nico went from “one of the slowest guys in the NCAA and has no kick” to “best kick in the country” in the space of about two years. This time in 2023 he was getting like 6th at NCAAs. Speaks volumes about how careful and disciplined Mike Smith was to build his speed over the course of four years.
Yep, I think he is the favorite behind Jakob in the 5000m at this point. Depends on how tired he is from the 10000 though.

yup. I think Grant actually conserved, waiting for Nico to make a move on him. He was ready with a response, but today he learned that Nico just has more in that final 50. Gonna have to take it from him earlier.

A word for Woody Kincaid - he out kicked a half dead, 300 lb Joe Klecker like 4 years ago and has been dining out on having a 'great kick' ever since lol 8th place
He's also 4 years older. This happens. (He's 4 years older than Grant Fisher, so Grant's peak is now).

We'll see. Nico is definitely one guy he doesn't want to get into a sprint with in a slow race. Time will tell if Nico is good enough to do it in a world championship, but the signs from this season are promising. On the other hand, Grant may have lost a step from his hammy since he outkicked Hocker in the winter.

He also has fast finishing speed if the pace is hot in the middle. He outkicked all the best Ethiopians in a fast diamond league 5k in Oslo. I think he could medal in both events.

It slowed down though between 2k-4k. When the pace was faster in Paris he was toast.

The Paris 5000 went through 3000 almost at world record pace. That is not going to happen in Tokyo.

He was toast in Paris because he lost connection to Kejelcha who was on world record pace and expended too much energy to try to attach himself back on that pace. In Oslo they were running at 12:50~ pace and Nico was able to kick everyone down. He will be fine!
