Injuries happen. Athletes have bad races or seasons for a variety of reasons (sickness, school stress, injuries, mental health, lack of commitment, etc). It could or could not be the coach’s fault. I don’t think it’s fair to automatically pin the failure of a small number of athletes on a coach, especially when you could look at many other top programs in the NAIA and find similar examples. 2-3 athletes underperforming over 1 track season doesn’t exactly mean he sucks at coaching.
Every coach with an ego thinks they can do a better job with the same resources. Every athlete wants to find a reason to hate on a program that is able to spend their way to the top. I’m not a Sowder apologist but I think it’s too early to tell whether he is able to develop athletes or if he’s simply able to recruit well.
Gans Creek results give us two clear favorites for the individual race in Silva and Haltermann. Taylor women showed they will contend for a title. Spring Arbor men are legit.

Evert is so good omg he's going to destroy all of us in November. I'm so excited to get absolutely dusted by him. YES!!!
I think we all knew how good OKC was outside of the raters I guess
Taylor really doesn’t look all too strong, IWU was just bad at their home meet
What happened to Aquinas?
spring arbor have yourself a day!! everything else played out kind of how I expected, cumberlands and aquinas ran a bit worse in the aggregate than I anticipated but in terms of head to head they look as I thought they would.
for Aquinas it just seems that the guys who were supposed to be their #1 / #2 (hardy, frey) just had a bad day. both with big positive splits. don't have a #5 yet either. cumberlands look bad past their #1.

Spring Arbor ran 5 minutes slower team time than what appears to be a mostly full strength GVSU team. That should probably put you NAIA top 10 most years.
Louisville 2023-- GVSU ran 2:00:45 to win Gold race while Cumberlands ran 2:06:14 to win the Blue race.
A large Spring Arbor jump can easily be justified.

Appears as though the annual Aquinas collapse is happening earlier this fall

For Cumberlands it was the 2 because Asslouj didn't run.
The Columbia course looks like it's mega fast as well

Cumberlands looked really bad yesterday. Madeo didn't look good either, unlike IWU. They are too dependent on 2 runners, one of whom (Asslouj) seems to be injured. Sowder and his assistant didn't look happy either.

Ladies looked pretty good to be honest. They had all the FR and Asslouj on the entry list. I wonder if they're holding them out or they have some injuries.
When you play the game where you're consistently getting kids that transfer after a year you have to get the incoming class absolutely correct if you want to be good at XC. Could change with them obviously like it did by the end last year but so far it looks like scholarbook gave them a bad batch this year
Luca Madeo so overrated. Sure he is okay but he very overrated in my opinion as we see at the Gans Creek. I strongly think that he will not perform as well as people expect at the national meet of cross country this November. Because of this, Cumberlands will do bad.
