BS. It’s the thoughtless rectal extractions surrounding ‘why’ that form the judgement(s). And obtw, the favorite today, won — and in impressive fashion. Yet, she fell short of pre-race predictions (judgments…).

It’s a common theme in here to predict races, share thoughts/reasons for what we think can be the outcome. Most of us end up learning a great deal by the discussions.
There are entire threads devoted to it. The above example is certainly not the only one.
Instead of the common, “she/he underperformed” maybe it’s because someone else exceeded expectations; maybe the ‘underperformer’ did exactly what his/her coach expected of him/her.
The point of this (rant) is that when the results dont match the prediction, perhaps we should question the basis of the prediction rather than the performance of the athlete.
Apparently Emily Covert had some issue which interrupted her training from which she is still recovering. "Emily Covert has had an interruption that we've been nursing along and she's such a competitor that she threw herself at the front end of the race too early. She paid the price for that some. She's a better runner than she showed today. We have two weeks to get fitter, healthier and a little more controlled. Ella Baran had a nice race, she's never seen a race this deep, fast and physical so she will learn from that. The women have a lot of improving to do if they are going to be a factor in two weeks."
The University of Colorado cross country program finished eighth on the men's side and ninth for the women at the 2022 Nuttycombe Invitational here Friday, while
Kusche, Hasty and Quax are probably the most inconsistent runners NAU has ever had. Maybe Blaise Ferro but he was actually injured a bunch and had a great last year. When they are on, they are ON. Kusche and Hasty were all americans. Quax was destroyed today by people he beat at Indiana where he won the race btw. But they are more often off and when you are reliant on them to essentially round off your scoring 5, you can’t have that. You don’t have Abdihamid and Luis anymore. Colin is 18 years old. The vets have to step up. Hopefully Mike Smith can get them right
