I love the GOAT as much as anybody, want him to succeed, but what is he thinking here? Didn’t he DNF the only organized 100 he’s ever attempted, and like, early in the race too?
Yeah i feel like he didn't fuel properly. IDK though, looks he has been practicing with coke and candy, we will see.
I'm 50/50 on SJD being a good 100+ mile runner. Probably more like 90/10 against him, but I think there is a chance.
On one hand, he's got a massive aerobic base and has historically trained in a way that's somewhat compatible with longer ultras. He's also done many decent-sized runs on very low amounts of sleep and no nutrition.
On the other hand, he's scrawny, underfueled, and has low strength/power. Not sure he's knows jack shyte about nutrition. Most of the "good" (not top-tier) ultrarunners I know are 10-15lbs over an ideal running weight and have fairly "built" legs.
Not sure he's got a crew or not and if his gear is dialed in. Not sure about mental fortitude. Given that he doesn't have the fortitude to regularly do intervals and tempo runs during a road marathon buildup, I give him a thumbs down there.

Yes, just couldn’t resist.
Was so impressed by the design and the way he talked so passionately about them in his latest two videos.
I also find his mantra ‘aspire to run, run to inspire’ so motivational and moving.
Patrick Martin is a strange one. He pops up from time to time with a "How I ran a 2:25 marathon at 45" video and seems to run high mileage quite steady paced all the time, gets injured, disappears for a few months, then comes back and runs same pace and distance as before.
Another person who could probably benefit from slowing it down. But that wouldn't look good on Strava would it
Isn't it convenient that Cole Gibbens used the 'Kaizen' app for his London Build up but decided not to mention it on his channel? (or strava, or anywhere else that may exist...) as he "wanted to get to know the brand", but now he is building for his next marathon (and they are sponsoring his videos) he wants to shout about it, including a free trial! Strange.
So grateful he has reassured us that he checked in with the founders to understand the integrity of the brand.
Just when you thought he couldn’t be more self absorbed, Floberg is now posting shirtless selfies on his Strava. The guy couldn’t be more thirsty for attention. Wonder how his wife feels about that one…
The latest Cole video is really cringe. Getting someone to film him walking out of the toilets, several times. And putting his shorts on :D
It makes the Ben is running videos look fairly normal
Yes, it was bad!
I don't know why Phily, Blowberg, and now Cole feel the need to show us footage of themselves throwing up or pooing. Also, if you're reading this, stop showing the perennial opening scene of getting dressed - it adds zero value.
To top it off, after running a generic session, Cole shows us a video of opening and eating a tin of rice pudding.
The only interesting part is he said he's looking to beat Ryan Thompson and Ran to Japan in Berlin - this is setting up an interesting showdown.

He's really starting to tick all of the desperate boxes lately.
Combining the level of desperation with a past eating disorder and looking increasingly lean, it's going to be interesting to see where this is gonna go.
I'm rooting for him, but not sure I'll be able to stomach the videos much longer.

I don't own a GPS watch, but even if I did, I would never upload anything anywhere. I am fully aware that nobody, besides me, cares for my running. You have to think a lot of yourself to share your activities I think. I could be wrong, but that's my opinion.
I think it’s maybe telling that shoetubers declaring themselves ‘all in’ on a race seems to result in underperforming more often than not, and yet they’ll bust out a random B/C race that’s “such a pleasant surprise, I did no specific training for this one!”
it is almost as if trying to look cool on the internet does not correlate with training or racing particularly well? Surely there is some expensive gadget that will explain this mystery.
Most, if not all of these YouTubers pick some arbitrary time and think that is how you train. They think they train like an elite because they hit mileage but elites would laugh at the paces most of these hit.
You should train to effort for a large part of the block and fine tune the race pace based on your effort. Ben Is Running took a lactate test the day before his London marathon and this told him the shape he was in but he clearly didn't like the results and just went off too fast anyway. Many others like Floberg and Bester just randomly pick a time, not looking at any data from training and hit that pace from km 1 whether they feel right or not. xemptyzThey then sell their coaching services to other people!
I think this is a very common pattern amongst some people. Rather than focusing on performing the best they can at that day (which I think would be commong among elites but also for beginners/hobbjoggers), they get hung up on a time and go for that time no matter what. Makes for a lot of failed marathons. There is a guy on a podcast I follow that wasted a couple of years of marathons that way.

Ah I always thought he was bafflingly saying "inspire to run, run to inspire", which is only marginally worse than the real mantra.
"Aspire to run" gives me "I'm gonna think hard about doing a session today, but in reality I'll just put it off untill tomorrow (or the next day)" vibes.
I agree, his channel was my fav of the lot. He's an incredible runner and really hope he makes it.
I guess it's personal preference and some people will love seeing all the day to day aspects of the day. I think I prefer the raw stuff that Ryan and distance project create rather than seeing each sock and shoe go on, each latte drunk and every loo stop.

Sounds like he’s got you a little hot and bothered!
So, Mark Lewis responded to our comments in his typical egotistical way. As always, he uses poor attempts at humour to detract from criticism - Floberg also does this.
He explains why he no longer runs - thinking people care. In doing so, he manages to drop in that he lives in a cottage with 10 acres of land, the same size as the entire housing estate he used to live on. Also, he claims the neurodiverse badge of honour (Philly and Fordy would be proud).
Glad he's out of the running world -- even though it's a total cop out. I do wonder how much longer people will tune in to watch his mid-life crisis boom and bust cycles of being in shape and then binge eating for months on end, leading to a reverse body transformation photo.

Surely he’s massive underdog of the three? Seems like a straight fight between rtj and Ryan unless injury or illness hits.
id have rtj favourite if he staves off injury and illness in the build up. He does seem way more likely than Ryan to succumb to that though. Higher risk training strategy
Cole seems the slowest of the three and also an injury risk
