Fantastic for him, almost 40 with multiple injury setbacks, he has an outside shot at the trials if he stays healthy but he definitely can easily get the masters American record I think
Mantz is a fantastic runner and I root for him as much as any American. He ran a great, smart race today. I hope he just keeps getting faster.
(But I also think that when a race is won via conspiracy, we owe it to ourselves to know and remember that and to hold the conspirators "accountable" in our minds when we compare them to other athletes.)
I can’t like or respect Mantz or Young after they pulled that. Should’ve both been DQ’d and suspended for such blatant race fixing.
You and the Rossi idiot need to start your own thread.
He'll turn 40, 08 May, 2026, one day before yours truly's birthday, coincidentally.

Linkletter was even with Mantz at Half (1:02:20) and then closed in 1:04:30. He had some pretty slow miles in there -- Mile 24 was 5:07, Mile 25 was 5:03 (headwind?). Closed in 4:49. His 02:06:49 is still pretty far from the 2:05:36 Candian record but kudos to him for saving the race and getting under 2:07 for the first time on a "real" course (2:07:02 at Boston)
Mantz is still on an another level but the race was in the right direction for Rory and there is still a lot of improvement. I think he will get the Canadian record one day.
Just saw the top woman finishing in around 2:15. Great time. Will shower now, have breakfast, water the plants and will be back to see the first American woman finish.

Get a grip, hotshot.
I was responding to a post that compared Mantz to Rupp, in terms of big races won (or medals). I noted that Mantz's biggest win was gifted to him for $$$, and that matters.
If you have a problem with that reality, get help.
Other than that, as I said, I root for Mantz and hope he gets faster and faster and wins big races and medals.

What are you guys talking about? Genuinely asking. Was it the deal Mantz and Young had about finishing 1-2 at the Trials?
if so, I think it’s harsh to get too mad about this or call it a “conspiracy.” Not that it’s okay or in the spirit of competition, but elites DNS or DNF or pace their races according to reductions and other contract terms pretty often. I think that behavior is further outside the spirit of competition than what Mantz and Young did.

Of course Rupp is past his Prime but I don’t think he’s completely off from a possible PB in the marathon I think if he can stay healthy the next year or two and BUILD on this run I still believe in Rupp running 2:06 or better. We have to remember this is the marathon not the 5 or 10k. I’m a big fan of Rupp because to me he is the pioneer for American men believing they can compete with the Africans.
all things considered injuries age etc, Rupp had a great race today. I wouldn’t count him out.

Yeah best to ignore that whole discussion and just report the posts. Most people don't see any issue with what they are discussing and it derails the thread.
Definitely happen to see Galen finish relatively strong in 16th with that 2:09.41 very solid result for him, as I thought a DNF was likely.
Agreed on both counts. Given how the 2024 trials went for him in Orlando, the injuries, and that he hadn't done much racing, I was thinking a DNF was about 50/50.
