You have agreed. But it seems after one day you already have forgotten.
comment: 5000m is a long distance event.
dumb's reply: That's why Ingebrigtsen only wins slow tactical races at 5k.
What you have trouble absorbing is that running it doesn't turn a md runner - like El G - into a true distance runner - like Bekele, Geb, Farah or Cheptegei. Ask yourself - is Ingebrigtsen that kind of runner?
How you call El Guerrouj or Ingebrigtsen has nothing to do with the easy fact: 5000m is a long distance event.
Jakob Ingebrigtsen is a true distance runner. So far his main distances were 1500m/Mile(md), 3000m/5000m (ld).
What you are trying to say with dozens of posts: he is not a pure long distance runner with strenght at 5000m and 10000m (like Zatopek, Clarke, Viren, Yifter, Rono, Gebrselassie, Bekele). You got this one absolutely right (a really difficult call about a runner who hasn't done a single 10000m race in his career so far). Will he belong to this category later in his career? We have to wait. I would say most likely not, since he is much stronger than all of them in the 1500m.
Again for you, since it see,s you have enormous trouble to get this one: 5000m is a long distance event. If Lyles does it, it's still a long distanc event (also it might feel like an Ultra-Marathon for him).
Absolutely astonishing that you can't get such an easy fact (and didn't know it before after watching athletics closely since 5+ decades) (or 70 years as you claimed recently?).
So where does 20th fastest in this era place him amongst the "great" 5k runners?
Ahead of all of them in the current era since he's unbeaten in finals at the Olympics, Worlds and European championships.
So your own form of selectivity is that times don't matter. So why does anyone care about world records? Or use times as a measure of achievement or ability? If they don't really matter we should probably ignore Jakob's wrs, too.

It doesn't matter whether you choose to define the 5k as a "distance event"; it doesn't make Ingebrigtsen a distance runner of the kind and calibre that Bekele and Geb were, and Farah and Cheptegei - which is a great 5k/10 and above runner. He so far remains a md runner performing at his outer limits. This is reflected in the facts that his 5k wins have only come in slow races. His times are unimpressive measured against the best. He has a long way to go to even get near the wr. I don't think he will show that he is a great distance runner - 5k/10k - of the kind I have described; he is a formidable md runner - although nowhere near being as great a md runner as El G. The closest parallel I can think of to Ingebrigtsen was the great Kenyan miler/3 miler, Kip Keino.

He’s already a great 5k runner. Olympic gold medalist and twice world champion. In the world championship era only Mo Farah is more decorated in the 5000m.

Nope, I think both times and results matter, but when someone hasn't lost a single final since competing as a senior then there's no difference in times that can make up that gap. He'd be the best even if he had a PR of 14 minutes when nobody with a faster PR than him can actually beat him in a final.

If his PR was 14:00, he wouldn’t out kick a single runner in his qualifying heat.

Thank you for setting the record straight on an obvious joke

I actually agree with ArmstrongLivs here. Jakob so far, has not shown continued dominance in the 5k and most certainly the 10k, outside of championships. Sure, he has won 3 straight titles which is great so that he is only behind Mo Farah in 5k titles. However, he does not run any 5k races on the circuit. It's pretty telling because he races the distance only once a year in a relatively slow time. So far, he has shown that his biggest strength are in the traditional middle distance races (1500, Mile, 2000m, 3000m, 2miles). Once I see Jakob starting throwing down very fast 5000m times against his competitors regularly, it will just remain an off distance for him that he wins in championships due to his 1500m/Mile aerobic power.
The only thing that I disagree with is that Jakob doesn't have the endurance to break the 5000m WR. Many 3000m WR holders have also held the 5000m WR, including: Daniel Komen, Moses Kiptanui, Said Aouita, Henry Rono, Kip Keino. It is certainly possible that he will break the record, but he has to do it first.

Seriously? I am not even a Jakob fan but you guys are sounding desperate. He dominates the races he chooses ro enter, which also happen to be the most important ones, but that's not enough for you to say he dominates the 5000m.

Ok, maybe it depends on what we value here. Haile Gebreselassie to me was #1 from 1997 to 2000 and he never won a single title. Kenenisa Bekele to me was #1 from 2004 to 2006. He didn't win any 5k titles in this timeframe. I just find it hard to call someone the best 5k runner when they barely compete in it, let alone calling him a distance runner rather than a middle distance runner. I think Ingebrigtsen is a middle distance runner at heart who can extend that range to the 5000m and win championships. Why would I think otherwise? I do think he can dominate the 5000m but he has to show it. I also agree with ArmstrongLivs that Farah was a better runner but not only for his multiple double 5k/10k wins, but because he replicated that outside of championships. Farah was undoubtedly the best 5k runner from 2011 - 2013 and 2015-2016. Ingebrigtsen can close that gap by continuing to set records, something which Farah lacked. But, I find it hard for him to close the gap on Farah's medals unless he switches to the 5k/10k double and finds success there.

63 minutes - in his "best distance".
