I know that you will say retirees aren't part of the participation rate. I understand how all things are calculated. Retirees are a tough thing though and can muck up the system for a little while. For example, I know a guy who was just about to retire, but his company was going to have a layoff. He offered himself up to his boss as someone who would be willing to be one of the ones laid off, and so he got a severance and in addition he then applied for unemployment compensation and did that for a while, even applying for jobs that he knew he wouldn't take. I know for sure there are others who do such a thing. I would never do that because I have 100% integrity 100% of the time, but most people are not like me.
