With Gans Creek coming, there has been talk about the luxuries that the big dogs have- Cumberlands, Taylor, Milligan,The Masters, IWU, Indiana Tech like low cost of attending, seemingly endless scholarship money, connections to internationals, facilities, even tradition. What NAIA schools do the most, with the least resources?
My best bets would be
1. St. Mary (gets the most out of the schools that don’t have much)
2. St. Francis (probably has the least out of any national qualifying school)
3. Grace (the school just recently received a 27 mill dollar endowment so maybe not anymore)
4. Kansas Wesleyan
5. Formerly would have said grand view but they have pretty much fallen apart the past few years
Great start to a topic besides bickering about "the difference between exchange students and internationals". I wouldn't consider any of these teams mediocre and no need to mention racism either!

USF is out. While they do not have their own facilities, the town lets them use a stadium that is so nice its the permanent conference host. While they do not have a lot of athletes, their studs they recruited out of high school do not pay much (if anything) to go there.
These schools are spoiled and don’t understand what it is truly like not having any facilities. There are a ton of us small NAIA schools that have pretty much nothing to work with.

Out of the schools I listed I thought that would be the least likely for anyone to disagree with.
The old coach left USF while the men’s and women’s teams were trophy or championship contenders every year to go to Mount Mercy which hasn’t been a competitive school in years. I’d assume that had to do with a lack of resources or mount mercy being willing to pay him more (which would signal them having more money
I’ve never seen their recruiting classes being talked about on the thread so I looked at some of their top runners high school times and outside of Wright and Anderson their top guys were around 4:40/10:00 hs runners. It doesn’t look like they have much in terms of scholarship money if that’s what they bring in
I’ve been to those park district facilities they have for their last chance meet they aren’t close to IWU or Taylor’s facilities. I’m not sure if they had an indoor track but that stadium/track looks really old and if it’s a community one they have to share it with high schools and other groups.
I was mainly looking at teams that are national qualifiers or close to national qualifiers
I don’t know what some of these other teams might have but the focus was doing more with less
Also goshen was able to get Voyles as an assistant coach while she had a job offer from Huntington who notably pays well. I’m assuming they have some money if they’re able to do that
On top of that they recruit really well in comparison to the teams I listed. In recent years they’ve recruited better than almost anyone which doesn’t necessarily mean they have the most money but that’s hard to do without money
Nobody in the NAIA has IWU facilities. They might invest in scholarships at other places but are still not on the IWU total campus. They are well ahead in that department. In my experience at the better-funded programs, coaches understand others' difficulties because we all have been in difficult positions in this sport. It's still track/ XC, and our sport takes a backseat to many others, even if it's funded well. Staying humble is pretty easy in this line of work.

Both of those guys ran 9:30/9:35 their senior year and their freshman woman that is running 18:22 already in the 5k?
also, if that facility is so bad, why do distance people flock there for last chance?

I really don’t know why that last chance meet is so big. I don’t think there’s any other good last chances in the Midwest so that’s probably why
Evita Martinez was a 5:33/11:49 girl in high school. That’s not bad by any means but not very good when you see the girls other top teams have been pulling in
Most of the schools I’d consider to be schools that have a lot get a few guys about as good as Anderson and Wright were in high school almost every recruiting class.
Of the teams I named off they easily recruit the worst. Kansas Wesleyan might be similar in what they run in the 3200 but they get some studs in mid distance.
on Friday big showdown in Missouri. IWU, OKC, Goshen, Taylor and the clowns from Cumberlands will run against each other. Silva, Fullerton, Asslouj and Madeo in one race will be entertaining. Cumberlands XC compared to track is completely overrated.

I think they focus more on mid distance. It's way easier to just go that route and out resource people that way. Xc is more of a crap shoot and they can still be top 5 pretty easily
Look at what happened to iwu last year. Run away favorite and tanked
