Agreed. l lost track of the number of times I was asked how I could have been a Marine and Democrat. I got similar reactions from other Dems asking why I joined. One trumper who was a work colleague had to have a discussion with me on a weekly basis to reconcile his lack of understanding. In his mind, only republicans are real Americans and Democrats hate the country so would never do anything patriotic. That guy went to MIT...

University professors have to support the "University" line. Academia is all about school/department politics, not US politics. I knew plenty of conservative professors and plenty of liberal ones. They all had to toe the same line for tenure.

I agree with some of what you say. But, in the Democratic party, if you don't support abortion you are not welcome. That is a litmus test. Please offer me something similar in the Republican party.

That is a very ignorant post. While identity politics has consumed both sides, it’s not true you are a pariah. Most people who continue to listen to Kanye are still democrats. I bet no conservatives have stopped listening to Taylor Swift just because she voiced her liberal opinion. But perhaps the most uninformed part of your post is claiming that conservatives don’t care what you do. Conservatives care about what two men or women who live thousands of miles away do with each other and how they share their assets. They interject in how women make decisions about their bodies. They care that people speak other languages (quick somebody call ICE!). They care a lot when someone is not acting “patriotic” enough. Many are actually reactionaries rather than conservatives and seek to make things “the way they were” again, and they certainly care when anyone else gets in the way of that thinking.

You can’t be a Republican apparently unless you support trump against all enemies: the Constitution, the press, dems, minorities, immigrants, democracy, etc.

Question for YOU. Do you support the legislation that was turned down that made doctors offer care to babies who had been born. These are Babies who are alive. The legislation was to protect these babies. Every fricking Dem said screw those babies and let's kill them!

The specific law we are discussing made it a crime for a doctor to not care for a baby who had been born and was a viable baby. Should a doctor provide medical care to a baby who is alive and breathing? You tell me if you support that/
