a quick search didn't turn up anything, but i remember reading in the past that about 1/4 to 1/3 of the field each year are doing their first Boston.. it's definitely less than half.
so yes, there are a lot of repeaters.
once you get to 10 years in a row, you aren't subject to the cut off time. for 471 folks this year as 10-(or more)-year streakers got to register back in August
we could debate from here to enternity about 'would mean more' as that's such a personal subjective thing
i've done it multiple times.... it is still incredibly meaningful for me
For sure, and to be clear I don't think you should bar repeaters...Just make it more selective to get in (harder times), and only do that every other year or something.
For the guy who said the thing about Masters, I mean I'm sure you're right. Just thinking if you were 41 now, it was relatively easier to get into Boston for the last 20 years (which many people in that group did). It's harder on anyone younger as these way-faster times and excess demand are just the reality now. While I think the idea of making things harder for younger prime athletes in general makes sense, it just seems to be encouraging a lot of repeat racers, and increasing the barrier to entry for those unlucky enough to decide to do it now and in those age groups.
