This might've been the issue. Tough NCAAs this year didn't leave him much room for error, so probably a bit tough to go NCAAs '24 > Trials > Olympics > NCAA XC > NCAA track '25 > USAs and stay in good form the whole way.
He also ran the double at big 12s because BYU was going for the team championship. I'm sure that took a little bit out of the tank.
Allie O seems too short for steeple. Now that she's getting more consistent training, I wonder if she'll shift focus to 10K/marathon. Curious to hear about the DNS.
The Red Sea parted for Hocker in Paris allowing him to win. He runs now like it is going to happen every time for him. He needs to put himself in a better position going into the last lap, and especially entering the final turn, instead of waiting for everyone to move out of his way.
He's arrogant and runs like it
Hocker won the Olympic 1500. He's earned the right to be confident. Whether he needs to adjust his racing strategy is another question.
The “how much time have you served in the army” chat is just ridiculous. Koech is in the army purely because that way he can stay in the US and run professionally. He doesn’t care about the US. He’s literally a Kenyan representing the US now. Just like how the NCAA is harming the development of American high schoolers, it’s now happening in the pro ranks too.
rojo on the pod right now trying to discount wejo's incredible take that nuguse wouldnt make the team. if that was his take, we'd be hearing about it til la2028
Nuguse pretty much copied Jakob's Paris Olympic final and pulled everyone to a fast time while fading to 4th/5th.
Hobbs goes from 5th in Paris Olympics to 4th in USA the next year, yikes. Wild thing is he isn't really much worse this year, it's everyone else running so strong.
jakob at least had the sick excuse, but either goose didnt have it or he burned himself out with all the indoors and grand slams

Jakob had no “sick excuse.” He said he ran the first lap too fast and the segment from 800-900 too fast. Nuguse today had some similar errors. The race was strung-out and comfortable and 3 guys had way too run the last 300.
She did well to make the final. Just nowhere near the level of that top group.
Yeah she would have been last (other than Emma Gee) but she took a spot from someone else in the final. I don't think they had time to replace her. Rude.
Hiltz is my least favorite runner along with Young. I hate it when she wins. And I hate the way they pronounce Mackay which is how Mekhi Becton pronounces his.

There is really only three ways to lead. And for Yared, basically none will work. You can lead the middle segment from 400-1200m near WR pace (close to 1:49-1:50) like Jakob does in all diamond leagues and if you have exceptional endurance like him it will be enough to win as Hocker will not have enough to finish in 39 seconds. You can also lead fast enough that it will tire people behind you and bunch them up, but this is hard to pull off (you need to be running consistent 56-57 and run extremely evenly). Or you can just pull a centro Rio 2016. Nuguse cannot win in any of those ways as he does not have the pace dialed in and probably is not fit enough.
