(1) it was cool to see Faith going "all out". i haven't seen her visibly in that much distress before. she usually a fairly stoic runner until the last 100m. i often wondered if top elite athletes are just different in that they're so well trained they just dont feel pain as intensely as us regular people, or if some elite athletes are so talented they rarely have to enter that zone to accomplish their goals. i think maybe it's a combination. anyway, interesting.
(2) i dont understand why nike didn't put her in funhouse shoes. they looked like pretty standard spikes to me. i figured she would have come out in road-racing type shoes with crazy cushioning and multiple carbon plates. to me, this seemed like the only way she could have gotten reasonably close to 4
(3) the "so close" speech they prepared was inadequate given how far off she was. no, faith did not show that 4 minutes is possible or that this is something we can expect in the future - just the opposite actually. you would think they would have prepared a "terrible failure" speech, especially given number (4)
(4) nike and the entire team must have known how far off she would be based on training data and prior time trials. why on earth would they put this event together given that it must have been totally obvious in the preceding months that she would get no where close to 4 minutes? seems strange to me
(5) faith is not in her 2023 and 2024 form. she could not even beat her 1000m pb from 2022, a year when she was over a second slower at 1500 (3:50.3, I think?) than in 2023 and 2024. even if she had gotten closer, we all would have wondered if the timing was wrong
