To use Ingebrigtsens "mediocre" 12.48 as proof that he is not close to beating the WR at 5000, is just laughable. He has never tried a serious time trial with rabbits at that distance. He does not like the pain he has to endure for that long, so he rarely runs if its not in a championship. If/when he does an actual serious attack at the WR, he will no doubt go under 12.40.
Remember he ran 58.3 each round when he smashed the 3000m WR.
So with a slow start, he could run first five rounds at 62`, next five 60`, next two 59`and last 200 m 26`. This will give him 12.36. If he can pull that of? Of course he can.
