when are we getting the Sage and Serious Runner podcast? add in a few other people and it could be a Relay rival
I just want to hear more poems from the serious runner
I'm flattered, but I don't know that people would find a podcast that interesting. I'd want to discuss non-running things, like youtube analytics and video stuff, which I think most people would tune out 🤣
Of course the large majority of sub 2.30 marathon men do the large majority of their training alone. Also, the large majority of them do some of their training either regularly or occasionally with either a partner or a group of similar level. I'd expect the few who do absolutely all their training solo, cycle after cycle, not to be living in the bigger cities .or they have heavy and fixed demands with eg work or kids
Also the very large majority of sub 2.30 marathon guys have some sort of mates, friends, buddies in the sport at their level. Some will have more than others. How many will apparently have none?
He has the serpentine membership to qualify for championship races eg London and big half. I think this means you can start near the front. He wears his own brand vest and never his club vest in such races. From doing these races I think club runners wear their club vests in club races. I've heard from people nearer to London that he never engages with his "teammates" in these selected races or other competitive runners of his best level.
I'm not a psychologist. But I look at what seems to be total absence of engagement of racing peers. Which in my experience is very unusual in itself. (I don't agree with those posters who don't think it unusual). And then I look at what seems to me an entirely contrasting approach. That is, the massive effort and time he spends to be noticed, liked, admired ( and I think sometimes paid for kit or coaching) by the rest of the running world. I find it puzzling. it has no relevance to my life, but I'm curious.
An earlier poster said I am an idiot posting nonsense. Maybe.
Nick Bester has made it pretty clear he wants to break 2:20 this year at his next marathon in Berlin. Talking about how he's going to go and work on limitations of 5k and 10k times, amongst other things. So why he decided to go and run a 55-70km ultra this Sunday totally baffles me. This has got to be one of the worst decisions he could make. Especially after running London marathon 2 weeks ago, and Manchester the week before that. So here you go guys. Go and be coached by Nick for only £115 a month. We only do long intervals and ego marathons, and more long intervals. Here at Best Athletics we don't acknowledge clear limitations (targeting 2:19 whilst running all out 68:15 in HM and 14:55 in 5k).. Lets target another 2:20 at Berlin 2024 after running another 14:5x and then wondering why it wasn't the day...

I like Ben Parkes. My only gripe with him is that he needs to make Sarah an honest woman.
@BenParkes and @SarahPlace are quite the couple but when is he going to pop THE QUESTION? Ben gives some insight into their relationship and what his perfect...
Philly Bowden - still hasn't explained why she got kicked off of New Balance, but is now flogging a dead horse trying to put endless positive spins on her 72" Half in Berlin. Her latest video is unfinishable.
Think she was on a gear-only deal, guess NB was banking on the outside chance she made the Olympic or Worlds team in the marathon?
I dont think she lives in Manchester either so distance + not getting free kit anymore = split
- she said it was full sponsorship / not gear-only, and made videos about that - she lives in Manchester and made videos about explicitly moving there for this team - you could have found that out yourself within 60secs by looking at her Strava
p10 says he's a member of Serpentine in London. Over 1000 members apparently. They wont all know each other.
He refuses to go to any club training or join in in any way. He's a member only on paper in order to get entry to the London Marathon Champs startline
In his 14 years (2010-2024) with the club so far, he's only ever done 1 race for the club; the 2022 London XC Champs, which he plodded round at the back then said he would never do XC again
He has a stock pile of product that was sent to him while he was away "working" for a month. He'll remove you from the stream or his loyal followers will call you a hater if you question his free bibs to get his sixth star.
Would be curious what full sponsorship meant for Bowden. Likely mid to high4 figs pa.? I just don't see her having Olympic QT in her tho undoubtedly a class athlete
Of the 3 YouTube uk coaches in this thread she charges most, bester least and he's actually got the best coaching track record of the 3. I'm not a bester fan, but it's not the most lovely trio .She's relatively new so can likely scale up from a mere £150 pcm with more experience.
I would like to welcome running YouTuber, Matt Bertrand, to the elite club of content creators who have posted a video that the BAA has disapproved. Long Live the BAA 🦄
