thanks for asking, Bushy....I've shut it down for awhile....had to abort last Thursday after about 30'....just wasn't able to push through it as before....taking a daily NSAID and things have gotten better....still some soreness, but at a much more tolerable level....plan to wait at least two more days before giving it another go....getting antsy especially with the holidays approaching....this is the time of year where I annually bump up the poundage....need the activity to keep things reasonable....a happy Thanksgiving to all DYRT celebrators....

Festival Foods 5 Mile Turkey Trot.

Great conditions for a run through the streets of Green Bay. 1,500 women; Approx. 1,000 men.

Hit 2 miles at 13;55.... faded to 35:51 finish for a 4th AG finish. 147/984 OA. Bro-in-law posted a 35:10 for a PR.

Bride did the 2 mile and #1 Daughter ran 51 for her first 5 mile finish.

Family ,friends, and food followed.

Packer victory over the Lions capped a fine day.

today: one glorious 5 miler around The Thames in and out of London marathon course. Gorgeous light, composedly frenzied commuters, The Globe, The Tate, some colleagues wearing camelbaks with way too much humidity...go figure. Feeling springy, feeling stretched.

yesterday:

walk, walk and more walk. Stairs and more stairs in the tubes

before yesterday.

today

Kids athletics, awesome as usual: sun-like spring, spring-like gait, gate-like steadiness. Equilibrium all around.

IF the 4x400m relay is the Athletic indicator of a country's sporting civilization, why doesnt that become the closing event of the Olympics?

Have team races tomorrow but wont go. Equally important priorities are equally awesome. Cant go wrong.

Saturday;

PM jaunt of only 2 miles. Warmed up, then did as many of Magill's drills as I could remember. Finished with some situps, pushups, and toe raisers.

Temps are headed back to normal range tonight after 2 days of high 40's.

Frost Bite 10 Mile coming up in 7 days.

Sunday, spent the day fixing furniture with my daughter

Monday, was just too tired from no sleep and train journey

Tuesday, only work...but no dullness.

Still, to honor this thread i will gladly run home.

Snow covered our roads again last night. The soft cushion of a new deposited inch lent silence and buffering to every step.

54 minutes of counting turkey tracks and keeping the dog moving from the distractions his nose sought to follow.

Saturday: kids athletics, 2 hours very sunny, awesome as usual to see kids just really enjoy themselves. And observe prositive proof that running can be used as a positive reward.

today:

walk to school and back.donated blood for a family friend who is hospitalized in oncology ward. things may/may not pan out. awfully, in the true sense of the word, sunny here. Maye just whip up an easy hour later on if i feel like it.

testing 1, 2, 3....I guess this thing still works....wasn't sure after the layoff...so after an 18 day respite, I was back at it yesterday....both the back and Achilles are much improved, though not 100%....at my age, they probably never will be....anyway thought I'd aim for 40' on my first day back...weather was lovely, as was the scenery, and so I was distracted and went a couple of minutes past the turnaround....thus it ended up being 44'....felt quite good despite a little Achilles stiffness....things are not too bad 24 hrs later....day off today, then hope to get at it again tomorrow...

today

Put up the christmas tree, then went to villa pamphili with my kids and the neighbour's for a couple hours of random running, jumping, ball throwing, local holiday random pre-lunch romp. Ran there, ran home, ran indside the park, ran outside, sidewalks and sidewalls, ran everywhere....

Have we run today? Yes we have. LOL.

had a bit of DOMS after Tuesday's run....guess that's what a layoff will do....back at it for a conservative 43' today....some good winds and temps getting cooler....nothing yet like what Bushy has already experienced....but went with 4 layers on top, including windbreaker, but still in mid-summer mode below the waist...and remembered to ice the Ache-illes afterward....hope to be back at it on Saturday....meanwhile I checked out that 50+ thread that Bushy mentioned....what a mess over there....the good news is he's leaving us alone....fingers crossed...

the convoluted mess of the 50+ thread got webbed around mo'pak somehow. Deletions, banning's, and a resplendent amount of pure schlock....x2 on the crossed fingers.

and that the younger generation is keeping some loose tabs here ....interesting.... for now we still have our forum, so I'll take that as an oblique sanction to continue on our merry way...

Got out the door at 7AM. Temp-3F. Ran out the drive and down the road a 100yds. Then wussed out and turned back. Geez.. I'm not ready for this yet. Hit the basement spin trainer for a brisk 24 minutes to fill out the workout.

i always thought thes sure sign of being a real runner was shown in the baility to turn back when it just wasnt right. There used to be a historic coach at La Farnesina track here in Rome who would actually send runners back home if during the warm up he could tell they werent going to benefit from the training.

If it dont feel right, dont do it.

today

Kids Athletics: experimented with a touring approach, fartleking from event site to event site. hammer and discus cage, to 400m start, to long jump, back to high jump, to 100m start to pole vault, to javelin and quikly in an out of the SC water jump. Never got so many repeats out of a bunch of little guys...

it's sometimes hard to turn back, but I did just that 3 weeks ago when the Ache-illes spoke to me...still a bit sore, but no turning back today....44' along the water route....slow but sure....iced the troublesome sinew afterward....stretched too....day off tomorrow and a busy Monday ahead....looks like it'll be Tuesday before I get out next....
