Yesterday,80 minutes running through One Eye Forest on rolling trails. Cool and cloudy. Marsuials out and about enjoying the coolweather.
Monday, an hour of paddling on the lake after work. Landed at 1/2 way at an area that might soon get a bit of running exploration. Wore my wetsuit as temps were single digit celsius. Very quiet, not a human to be seen. Choppy water.
Sunday, club 5k handicap race from Bendigo Jockey Club. Leg weary but hung tough to 4k in 16.00 and then buried myself with a 3.53 last km.
Saturday, interclub relays. Ran 1st leg for O/35 team. 3 laps for total of 3.2kms. Couldn't hang on to the young uns. Greg H led our open team through a strong 10.59. Greg would also run last leg (of 4) for O/35, I was running last (of 3) leg of O/50s. Led out a group of 3 O/50 guys in cold windy conditions. I managed to shake 2 of them including Wolf who was leading out my O/50 team. Got outkicked over the last 300m. Ran 12.10.
Wolf hung tough with a 12.19, handing off to Pete H who battled around to hand off to me. I struggled through 1st lap but had an O/60 mate/rival start HIS 1st lap 50m in front of me as I started my 2d. Dug in to run psat him on my last lap with a 12.56 clocking. We squeezed ourselves into 2d.
Greg H ran a solid 11.24 last leg for O/35s to get us a 2d there as well.
The last leg of the open was the exciting one. Our boy Pete C (800m 18yo) against the Y's hard nut vet marathoner Ian. Ian kicked hard into the breeze 500m out to open 10 metres on Pete. Pete dug deep drew level 200 out and kicked home to win by 20 metres.
A good day.
