Yeah maybe you are right. In that case I think with all due respect to women out there and the sub 4min mile, this was a cool event but one and done.

Besides the visual of having women as part of the attempt, what was point of having the women there hang out in back and then drop?

They already ruined the marathon record with their sub 2 attempt. Glad they failed this stunt and at least this record is left for some future woman to get it in a legit way.

Yes, exactly this. She was very impressive through 1200, surely by far faster than any woman has run for that distance. But clearly not ready for 4-flat pace the whole way. 4:04 could have happened with slightly slower pacing.

Cycling studies have shown that suit aerodynamics don’t make dramatic difference in running events. Not fast enough.

I’m interested to know what data the people at Nike have that made them feel that sub 4:00 was a feasible outcome. They bet a lot of money and PR on this. With no disrespect to Faith, I didn’t think there was any shot at her running sub 4:00 unless they were setting up industrial fans circling the track and using illegal shoes or spikes. I think the only way a woman runs sub 4:00 with our current training knowledge and technology would be to use extreme levels of doping, like female to male hormone replacement therapy type stuff.

Honestly huge kudos to Faith for taking a honest stab at it though. Super gutsy.
