I wonder what's come over Amby. I'm kinda worried about him. He was generally ah yes, definitely, maybe. I'm in full agreement with him. Amby, are you okay?
I'll continue to say that people who boast of their intelligence are rarely extremely intelligent.
You'll continue to prove the point as my case study. Thanks for that.😘
The "I'm very smart, you know" types may be "above average," as you seem to think you are (and may well be).
But these braggarts are seldom extraordinary. The same dim understanding of intelligence that leads them to make such banal statements reflects, ironically, their intellectual poverty.
The fact that you think a single sentence you've typed here 'backs up your boasting' reflects my point. It's depressing, frankly.
Frankly I didn’t mean to transform this thread into a pissing match. But here is the deal: Amby Burfoot offered his opinion about whether the 2:09 female marathoner Ruth C is doping. You then attacked his opinion by accusing him of being desperate for relevance, which is fine except it is meaningless, because even IF that was the impetus for the article, it is immaterial in assessing the worthiness of the opinion, much as my boasting of my intelligence, while perhaps unbecoming and symptomatic of an inflated ego, has no bearing on the quality of my arguments, which have rendered your assertions impotent.
Hello. Talk about one of the most obvious cases of doping we have seen.

About as obvious as the recent men's half marathon world record. Stay tuned for that one....
The World Record was 9 months ago. Did she test positive for a diuretic (a minor issue) back then?
A masking agent isn't "minor". It suggests doping. She was apparently doping in March this year but you don't think she would have been when she set a record a few months earlier that defied all belief?
I am unclear why she is being maligned so much more than anyone else. At that level, they are all on drugs. Yes, Burfoot is outraged, but why is he emphasizing that women deserve better? Maybe the running community as a whole? I am a woman and feel Ruth C. is being told she shined too bright, which is far more problematic to me (^^^as a woman…) than the effect of her performance on women’s running. Is her record unfair to the pro women who are not doping? YES. Is she hurting “women’s running”? Not any more than anyone else’s enhanced performances, of which there are many.
"At that level, they are all on drugs." - CITATION NEEDED!!
"anyone else’s enhanced performances, of which there are many" - CITATION NEEDED!!
Please provide evidence for these outrageous claims!!
Exhibit A.
Go ahead and keep your head in the sand…YOU are part of the problem.
Ironically, you know who has the most suspect marathon progression of them all? Amby Burfoot. Nothing about his record of "accomplishment" makes sense. He makes Chepngetich look like Snow White.
I'm as suspicious as anybody, but the trial has not happened yet, and so far I haven't heard a good explanation of why she would take the medicine 5 days after a race and at a level that sticks out like a sore thumb. Think of this like analyzing game play. The best theory I have is that the withdrawal effect is performance-enhancing.
You are taking a masking agent to hide that you are glowing from the hardcore PEDs when the tester comes. That has nothing to do with the next or the last race; doping is done year long, as the history proves.
Most likely she panicked and took too much of the masking agent in her despair.
Still, only 2 years instead of the otherwise 4 year ban. Extra bonus: she can pretend her drugs weren't performance enhancing, i.e. she wasn't cheating and just took a "specified substance" by mistake.
"pitchfork-wielding mob" to describe experienced runners who knew what was up, good one, rekbot.
Sure. Just like experienced runners would have known "what was up" when Beamon jumped almost 2 full feet farther than anyone else ever had. Or when Moorcroft took almost 6 seconds off the 5,000m WR in one fell swoop. GTFOH.

Prove me wrong.
What do you find suspicious about going from a 2:34 debut in 1965 to a 2:14 best in three years?
