This commenter on his vids must be the most susceptible to joining a cult I have ever scene. Somebody send him a plane ticket to Utah
I think his real trap is that he's pretty much maxed out his running potential, unless he scraps YouTube altogether and actually prioritizes recovery.
He's in his late 30's, so every year he has to work harder than before just to maintain the same fitness. He's doing 100+mpw during training cycles, weights, etc. How can he improve the stimulus to improve the response, while pumping out videos every day? He can't.
He won PP twice, his marathon PB is barely budging. There's nowhere for his fitness/performances to realistically go except flatline or go downwards.
I actually think this is wrong. Yes, age is going to catch up with him, but I don't think he is maxed out at all in terms of running performance, especially in the marathon, because his training is absolute garbage. Look at his training for his OTQ attempt at Rotterdam. It was insane. Very little quality, tons of slow volume, almost no MP efforts, lots of vert in training for a course at sea level with no vertical. I'm honestly impressed he ran as fast as he did. I don't know if he has the ability to OTQ but with his half marathon PR and his ability to train full time he absolutely should be able to go sub-2:20 with just a garden variety traditional marathon training plan. He could just straight up copy the workouts of any OTQ guy on Strava and be way ahead of where he is now. And he wouldn't have to wake up at 4 in the morning to do it. I do agree that deprioritizing Youtube would help, but he could easily change his training approach and continue with the vlog.
The idiotic "turn the doorknob" catchphrase is such a great metaphor for flaws in his training. I'm not a fan of catchphrases in general, but I understand the logic behind something like "break the rock" or "chop wood, carry water." These refer to something difficult you have to do every day in order to realize a result.
Turning a doorknob is not hard unless you are a moron. We are literally talking about opening a door-- not chopping firewood, not pounding a rock with a hammer. Opening a door. It's hilarious to me.

Eh, nitpicking on the catchphrase. Sometimes the hardest part of a run is just getting out the door. After that, it’s easy. I understand it. I wouldn’t buy a shirt with that written on it, but I get it.
I do agree that he may have some more room to improve. Truth is he could probably cut down to 90 miles a week peak volume but train smart and actually do better. Less time spent training, more recovery time, more family time and faster race times. I just don’t understand why he isn’t keen on trying it.
Turning the doorknob is his approach to vlogging. Doesn’t matter if it’s good or bad or interesting, just keep turning the door knob. Just keep pumping out a daily video even when it’s pointless. He doesn’t understand on any level that there can be quality over quantity. In fact todays video shows he prefers the opposite.
It's about Time, Seth. This news makes me happier than I would be if you were doubling down and putting out MORE content. Take some deeper breaths, enjoy the family and make the memories. This is the top comment on the video. Clearly his audience is not the Lets Run crowd
Just went for a late easy 10 mile run this morning and it was already 10:30am when I came back so decided to have a quick snack before having a proper lunch
Only thing I could find was 3 eggs so just quickly ate them ..
Needless to say I am still starving and counting down the minutes till lunch ...

Well he certainly found a way to lower the quality even more: Todays Vlog was just him opening a bunch of boxes and fumbling around with the Durometer.

So the first vlog with reduced quality is starting with True Love. No comment. Hillarious that he gives comment of the day to the one that was ridiculed here, calling him a bright star. Seth must be reading this thread. Hi Seth! Enjoy your time with the new born, dont be afraid to up the quality and put down the quantity of your running. A bit more sleep and quality food does wonders for your energy.
I've watched Seth's vlog in the past muted with captioning. After reading this thread I watched one with sound, wow, what a weird fake (I'm from the streets) accent and unnaturally deep tone Seth uses, I couldn't believe that's what he actually sounded like. Muted he was tolerable, unmuted he's terribly annoying.
I wonder how the free range chicken farming industry is in Colorado?
Heyoo! How's it going out there Dee. Gee. Arr. Shout out to all you runners tunin' in out there from around the globe. I think we even have some DGR all the way over there in Korea. Hang on, is it Korea... yea I wanna say Korea, North Korea. Or maybe it's South... I can't quite remember. If any of you have a map, I'm just sayin', you know, could always use a map. Could I have been sponsored by an Atlas? Probably yes, I did win the Pike's Peak marathon. Pike's Peak is actually on some maps, but you all know: I choose to be beholden to nobody. Ok, ok.
Anyway, ANYWAY, I'm just grabbing a few things and then it's time to head out the cu-bicle, the cu-cu-cu-bicle. I have discerned, that's right I've been doing some discerning all right, you know how much I discern. I do a little discerning, a little contemplating, a little pontificating - ok maybe a lot of pontificating - you know I love that word. Anyway, anyway. True Love and I have discerned that I gotta get a job. Onward and upward.
*Quacking ball and chain clip art flashes across screen*
So that's why I'm heading out to the cu-bicle. But don't you worry D-G-R, those PO box opening shots aren't going anywhere. Or the leaving the garage shots. Don't you worry. This is a community. Anyway, anyway. Tune in tomorrow for my 50 mile egg full review. Let's throw it back to, I don't know, oh I know, my egg first impressions. Links right thur right thur right thur.
Seek banality, work inefficiently, and monetize each other!
The durometer test seems like a waste of time. Sure you can see how hard the soles are, but what is this number actually telling the viewer? Unless it’s shown on a sliding scale comparing the soles to different household items/shoes, it’s just an arbitrary number to most.
Do people really care that much about running shoes? Like are the average viewers seriously gooning over an elite runner telling them about stack height and upper material? They’re running shoes. You’re better off going to a store and trying them on.

Wait a second. Which elite runner is doing shoe reviews? Now, that is something I would really wanna watch.
