Yes, In the US we try to decentralize power so it’s harder for the federal government to restrict things like peaceful protests or leaving your home after some arbitrary curfew time.

Americans can still go to Europe and the rest of your last statement is speculation. I’m guessing most Australians wouldn’t have guessed they’d be among the strictest lockdown nations in the world (if not the strictest) a few months ago.

Yes there are protesters. You never get unanimity. But the overwhelming majority is against those protesters, and telling them to just stay home.

No. If you followed it at all, you’d know once the country hits 80% double vaxxed, it opens up, on the basis it can be treated like the flu.

At this point I’m Australia, the only double vaxxed in an intensive care unit are those with severe underlying health conditions. The vaccines are protecting everyone else, and could even be helping those people too.

Exactly.

The simple solution here is just to arrest all these individuals at these protests and keep them locked up until the pandemic subsides.

There are only a few thousand repeat offenders at these protests that are inevitably spreading Covid. They make themselves very easy to arrest and lock away when they gather at these large protests.

A couple of hundred or thousand people can peacefully protest, they simply cannot break the laws. Fines for breaking the number limit and mask laws that apply to all of us. Arrest for those who abuse the cops that apply to all of us. We support that.

We need to lockdown hard for as long as is necessary. If this means taking away freedoms from selfish individuals then so be it. If we need to be locked down for another year or more due to variants I say that’s totally fine. We cannot let this virus run rampant in our country and possibly kill thousands.

These platitudes have no place in a covid world.

A liberal open society can not be tolerated if thousands, or even millions, of Australians can potentially get sick and due. We can turn back the clock after covid is defeated but until then individual Australians must be confined & freedoms restricted for the greater good.

The Americans fought a war against an enemy, namely the Taliban, for 20 years. Surely Australians, a tougher breed, can fight an enemy right at home, namely Covid for at least half that time.

Our northern friends don't know how to take the pi*s out of themselves like Aussies do, one of the great qualities here.

They should learn to relax, they are at each other's throats all the time. They cannot understand that we stand together across political affiliations in a bi partisan way.

They also interfere in everybody else's business for their own benefit, pretending otherwise. How do you explain the greatest army, marines, seals getting their arse kicked by sandal wearing wanderers? Because they wern't there to liberate in the first case.

...and on another note, the numbers in NSW are still stable at 1,000-1,400/day. Vaccinations are at 74% 1st dose, looking at 70% second dose in < 5 weeks, events etc etc.

Modelling shows cases will peak around 2,000 before settling at 1,000/day post 70%.

We look on track to get 80% second dose early November, with very good prediction of >90% or highest vac numbers in world.

Cases increased 33% last week in Australia. Are you going to keep everything shut down until early November? That would be like 5 months of lockdowns. How many businesses will be able to survive tha?. My wife's office was shut for 6 weeks and she was sweating it out. Can't imagine a business trying to survive five months of lockdowns. Additionally, is the vaccine Australia using all that effective against the delta variant? If the vaccinated get the virus in large numbers do you keep the lockdowns going?
