The lockdown is not being extended in NZ; it is being extended - for two weeks - in Auckland only, where the outbreak of Delta is centred. Read the article. The lockdown is now being reduced for the rest of the country.
It may be perplexing to one of your intellectual level, but public health measures are applied in measure to deal with the nature of the crisis faced - they are not a lease with a fixed term. NZ will likely eliminate Delta while it vaccinates its population, whereas so many of you will have to live - and die - with it in your communities. And still resist vaccination.
On the off chance these countries are able to stave off the current outbreaks with rigorous lockdowns, and they are able to get their populations vaccinated, will they stay open when the vaccinated are dying around them, or will they remain in a state of economic shutdown in perpetuity?
