Took the Birkebeiner course to a 4:12 finish. Grey, calm, and cool conditions prevailed..... that's around the 75% tile.

XC ski 10K @ Nine mile.
Maple season is upon me--- I'll depart from this monologue for a time--- and wonder if only silence will ensue.
took a few days off to recover from a cold.....back at it today and picked up near where I left off....40' in shorts, ls shirt, and windbreaker.....spring?......no complaints.....aiming to go again on Tuesday....
sorry for the length of time between posts.....this week started out well.....40' on Tuesday.....40' on Thursday with a tough headwind on the "back".....bumped it up to 45' on Saturday......Sunday dawned a beautiful day and decided to break my rule and to back-to-back days.....plan was for 40'....felt pretty good until about 30' when the right calf knotted up.....walked home......this is the calf issue in the 3 months I've been wearing the calf sleeves.....looks like some down time coming up....
St Patrick's Day;
Another day of snowshoing in the sugar bush.
Legs are weary and sore. Soft clingy snow makes this killer work. Running is out of the question when a slow shuffling walk for 8-10 hours daily is reducing my marathoning and fitness buddies to shambles.
O2: sorry to hear the calf is acting up again. What fresh new approach remains to be tried?
about 35' yesterday.....analog wrist watch, no GPS.....slowed down occasionally to play it safe....no problems including Achilles....looks like 2 more off days, then will try again on Saturday.....optimistic...
36' today.....calf sleeves x 2.....felt good but kept it reasonable with plans for a Monday run.....also a 60' walk with the bride.....it's all good....
o2; R&R sounds like the ticket
been sugaring away here as of late. Long days. Lots of walking in soft snow conditions. Got a much needed breather today. This work makes me feel my age.
Bright sun off the April snow has all us 50+ guys looking like tanning cases.LOL
Got about 35% of the Maple crop made and the flavor so far has been great.
Will resume running when the season concludes.
Comp x 2 , and let it happen.
Wonder if the point could be will ever rejoin us.
my apologies for not posting sooner/more often.....last week = rain on Monday, so hit the 'mill.....blew a circuit breaker after 15' (not due to my speed).....couldn't find the right circuit, so end of workout......rain on Tuesday combined with reluctance to workout 2 consecutive days leads to day off.....Wednesday track meet = no running for me....Thursday a nice 40+'.....Friday off.....Saturday about 42' along the water......very nice.....Sunday off.....Monday off due to personal commitment.....Tuesday 32' ish......Wednesday rain.......today, track meet.....will run again maybe tomorrow, but no later than Saturday am......will hope to report in a more timely fashion.....
Picking up the pieces that comprise my normal life, with the end of Maple Season at hand.
The crop was adequate. Not great....., not a washout.
Celebrated the freedom with a 43 min. run this AM on familiar backroads. Right ankle is tight and sore. It will take some time for the fatigue to fade and a semblance of spring returns to my step.
Those of us who still subscribe to this thread must hang together. RD your words of encouragement are well taken.
10 miles - local university campus and back.
A sobering 6.1 miles in 68 minutes. The road back is destined to be long.
Snow fall overnight amounted to 2" wet and willing to pack. Quiet soft footfalls were the order of the day.
5 mile shakeout after a fast tempo yesterday
That 6 miler last Weds. left me with a sore calf. Cut short a Sunday effort at less than a mile. Got on the bike trainer for 20 minutes this AM. Bleak as the weather. Maybe I'm done.
O2; Got a pair of 2XU buried in the sock drawer. Agreed, time to put them into play.
AM. 2.4 miles. untimed...calf OK... weather continues dismal. Sleet snow mix at 35F. But, who are we to complain. Trivial discomfort not worthy of mention in light of the disastrous loss of life and property in the South.
Cheer up Bush. It will warm up in about 6 short weeks, spring will come. This has sure been a poor March/April for enjoying the great outdoors in Marathon CO.
36' yesterday while the gang was out for a run.....had to keep it kind of short to make sure I got back when the groups finished.....prolly a good thing as the legs were kind of heavy.....likely part of the overall body weariness I'm experiencing.....bring on the weekend......looking to do 50' tomorrow......
Catski for 25 mins. Choice weather with 60F for a high, sunny and calm.
PM; 20 mi bike ride with the Bride in tow. See the USA on a Trek. Man, these are the days a person sticks around to live for.
Geese flying, horned owls conversing, spring peepers filling the ponds with a joyful riot of noise.
Eastwood; saw "goggles" on tour in Wildwood tuesday. Looking fleet and fit as always.
Six short weeks? Surely you jest. Hi for the day in 1952 was 91F.
68 minutes on foot; 5.5 miles, included play time with the dog, and a side walking tour of a mine spoil pile.
The legs finally agreed to run for at least part of the jaunt, a break through in itself.
Sunday, May 1. AM 28 mile bike ride local route, PM; 33 miles on the Old Abe Trail. Temps in the mid 30's F. Blustery winds from the SW.
